What do groups gain from US promos?

  • But did they break into the market bc of us promos or it came naturally as they gained fans ww?

A bit of both. US ARMY begged Big Hit to promote in the US, that's for sure. But once they started, they gained new fans that they wouldn't have gotten without promotion. I think it's pretty useless to promote there if you don't really have a solid fanbase waiting for you.

  • heaps for groups who have demand in US (bts and bp). just look at their growth in fans, sales, streaming, etc.

also, bts can easily sell out stadiums in the US.

bonus: korea's economy wins too. when they see korean products used by these groups, there is demand for those ptoducts as well.

  • Actually kpop itself is becoming more and more known ww and in the usa. Just look at BTS, they have a legion of fans there and they are somehow majority "new" to the kpop world, the same with BP, but with less obviously, but still they are introducing kpop there with these promos.

It's not like kpop is stagnant tbh. BP is charting in the Hot200 about 24 weeks and they achieved it bc they are still gaining fans even till now.

Kpop is growing and this kind of promo helps it as people are more open minded about a lot of things!

  • Nah. You won't be able to the growth from concerts even if it does happen.

BTS will go on performing at stadiums like their last few concerts.

BP still aren't big enough for stadiums. So they'll keep performing in arenas like before.

In this case, other data will be better.

Is there no middle ground? It might not be on stadium level but the growth of blinks has doubled at the very least just in the past year or so

  • The US is the biggest music market and even taking a small chunk of it is big business. For example, the NEo City tour only had 10 shows in North America in smaller venues but still grossed almost $7 million. If you take it a few years back. EXO earned over $1.4 million from just one US tour stop. Similarly, the less popular SuperM also earned $1M from just one tour stop in 2020. BTS raked in $16.6 million from 2 nights of shows at a very large venue. And that’s just tours - that’s not counting merch, albums or subscriptions to things like Bubble.

    Dollars talk, yo.

Lol BP will then go from performing at 8 arena concerts to 15

    Hows that not growth?!

Also year to year streaming is increasing for both groups & 80% of US music consumption is through streaming

  • BTS were charting before starting their US promo but it brought them more visibility a.k.a more fans. Better distribution deals, music became more accessible to their US fans and overall growth. It's similar to how you would promote in Korea and Japan. For Korea, idols go to music shows, varieties etc. It's a bit different in Japan but promo there helps too.
