Well, what I see the companies more or less only put the name of the members and birtday. I mean, where can I see any statement Irene is the leader of Red Velvet. ? Maybe it's true, just never seen any statements like that for any group at all of what I can remember.

But don't they just put "leader" on the oldes member, because in contries like South Korea and Japan age is important so they just call the oldest member the "leader"? Anyway, feels it all talk of "positons" are mostly something fans come up with and talk about and nothing the companies use much.

Not always, though I do think it's a factor as quite a few groups have the oldest as the leader
Examples of groups where it's not the oldest:
IVE: Yujin had a lot of experience as an idol already.
(G)I-dle: I think the reasons for this are very obvious.
Twice: Jihyo had by far the longest trainee period. She is not that much younger than Sana, but they are from a different year.
BTS: There is a 2 year gap with the oldest, which is quite big. RM is by far the best English speaker (the gap was even bigger in the past), had been active in music for a while even when joining the group and was also part of Big Hit sooner than Jin.
I think also TXT and NCT127 have leaders that are not the oldest and there are probably more.
Stray Kids is an interesting case, as Bangchan wasn't the oldest member, but is after Woojin left. Woojin was still from the same year group, though.

I don't think it's common companies put "positions"/labels on their members, that is mostly something fans do.
I don't know about all groups but rm is officially the leader of bts, chaewon of le sserafim and Jay b is of got7. One of the many examples.
Eta: and none of them is the oldest member.

I like this. People's tastes are different. The prettiest member to me is never the official visual. All idols are pretty anyway, if they weren't they wouldn't be part of their group

Red Velvet's artists page on SM's website is more minimalist but you can listen to their introductions on shows like Weekly Idol or various radio interviews, you can go to melon.com, go to Irene's profile and go to more information, where she is introduced as Red Velvet's leader. Or You can watch the 10th Episode of SuperTV Season 2, a SM made show for an SM group where Red Velvet guests and they examine each of their official profile, pauze the video on Irene's profile, and use Google Lens on your phone to auto translate it. None of it is determined by fans. fans are generally parotting what they hear from the idols themselves first.

leader position is a real thing. its representative of the group when dealing with the company

In Stray Kids' case, Bang Chan was the leader even before the group exists, cause It was built around him. He helped the Company pointing out which other trainees he wanted to debut with, he chose the name of the group and handwrote It's logo, on top of that he's the main producer of their discography.
