Is stray kids only the top group that isn’t top group in Korea?

You remember it wrong

I went to read your quote and was equally confused when I saw this.
When Bang Chan and Felix were 17 (and 18 in Korea), the first had been just rejected to debuted with GOT7 and said he thought many times about giving up on being idol cause he was feeling alone and depressed.
The later just arrived in South Korea months before, a country he neither was born nor raised or knew the language well and, just like Bang Chan, had no idea If or when he would be able to debut.
I don't know what's the first thing that came to their mind, but It's not really surprising they chose their australian citizenship. Why staying as a citizen of a country you don't even know you will be able to build a career up and your family isn't even there to give you support.

They have plenty of slower songs in their albums so it isn't that they aren't making content for the masses but it's their harder sounds that blows up.
I think they've just accepted that foreign acceptance is going to make them a known entity in SK so they're sticking to that. They also don't seem interested in going full English either which means they're sticking to their sound regardless of which market they tackle.
Fans have been theorizing the 'Special Album' on Step Out 2024 might be an english release. I don't know If It's true or not, but I don't really mind If they stick to a style/sound that I like just as much as their korean releases.
-
It was shiny when BTS did it. They were the “first”. SKZ will not be afforded the same sentiment I guess.

Twice, Fifty Fifty and most boy groups.

It’s uncommon for 4th gen bgs (even other bgs) to do very well in korea though. They are doing just fine everywhere else.

This is a question I wonder about as well.
For context, I was an ARMY from 2017 - 2021, and a Stay from pre debut will 2019 - 2020. I participated in birthday project, caught live streams, voting projects and other streaming stuff until then, but I don't anymore.
I think its a little hard to say without understanding, there's a lot of videos that say a lot of individuals don't follow as many groups anymore due to the overwhelming amount of debuts, variety of members and talents and music genres the said group covers.
Especially as the music genre is getting more and more diverse with self produced singer songwriters, singer songwriters being promoted and signing with small companies for more activities and chances at modelling, appearing on variety shows, or music shows like its live, MBC or other programs.
Each group mentioned previously have different situations, and took a lot of different comebacks before getting the chance to get noticed, and the streaming 'culture' was improved upon by many individuals. For me, the biggest achievement I watched BTS achieve was Blood Sweat & Tears, Spring Day, DNA and IDOL. Fans loved the concept, lyrics and more of their song 'DOPE'.
Charting well means something different for every fan, if I focused on charting well I wouldn't be following some of the artists I do now that helped me make friends, find songs I enjoy or talented artists.
Some of Straykids best charting songs to my knowledge are songs like CASE 143, Christmas EveL, DOMINO, Charmer, Waiting for Us (Unit song), and of course S Class, MANIAC.
They have sold out domes, and achieved different artist anniversaries, even if groups aren't always the top I think that's pretty cool. 😎

yeah exactly. Just bcz their parents are from Korea doesnt mean they'll choose Korean nationality over Australia. In my country people usually use their father's birthplace as their identity even if they werent born there but personally for me my dad's birthplace is not my identity I wasnt born there nor did I grow up. I use my birthplace and the place i grew up as my identity cz I connect and relate to this place more. I just feel like that op saw twt stays bragging about the aussie line not going to military during fanwars and got mad and used that opportunity to be passive aggressive about them in akp threads lol.

Never got these comparisons when BTS were rising internationally at the same time they were in Korea if anything

This feeling is because BTS was rising abroad when everyone else was pretty nugu, hence people associate BTS as a group more popular internationally (where everyone was nugu) than domestically (where many groups were sucessul), but their growth indeed happened at the same time both inside and outside Korea
I must add BTS in 2015 was almost completely unknown outside kpop circles. Any given mid-sized 4th gen group is much more popular abroad than BTS was when they had their first hit song in Korea (I Need U era).
International popularity only helped BTS to get attention in Korea many years later. I would say Fake Love era was the moment k-media started reporting headlines of BTS accomplishments in USA which propelled BTS status in South Korea, but BTS had already many hits in SK before Fake Love so yeah

circle 2013 ?
circle 2014 ?
circle 2015 #90 i need u
circle 2016 #87 fire
circle 2017 #13 spring day
circle 2018 #17 fake love
They weren't born immediately big like winner or ikon in Korea, they started from the bottom, really from the bottom. only time will tell, but I have a feeling skz will do the same.

+1 to this BTS was charting on circle digital chart not like these groups who never saw the light of day. EVEN 17 and NCT will see their first ever entires only this year. (7-8 years after debut)

Just a point to make, the latest UL-based charts are much harder to chart high if solely dependent on fans. They need some GP support if they want to enter top 100. Back then, downloads and mass streaming helped with charting. Now donwloads only work for circle chart and mass stream/zombie hours streaming wont work.

Don’t be stupid. Who was even talking about random real time charts that no one cares about. This change is a non issue for people who know to only look at daily/weekly charts as well as the Gaon digital scores. BTS was charting enough on the non real time charts like the daily charts along with enough downloads to enter the circle year end digital chart.
Gaon has always filtered the mass streaming since long before. EXO don’t have single streaming certification in spite of being #1 on melon with zillion streams on there.
These groups don’t enter the chart because South Korea doesn’t care about BG’s. Plain and simple. Even less than they used to.

Its all because wonyoung didn't bowed to bangchan
This is hilarious knowing there’s some truth to it 😂😂
