Why is bowing so important for BG stans but not GG stans?

  • Among all stupid 'scandal' or 'controversy' in Kpop, this one is the most ridiculous one for me. Anyway, the bowing-not-bowing controversy I've heard always relates to bg stans claiming that certain groups didn't bow to their oppa, deeming it rude, immoral, and perhaps equivalent to a crime for them as how bad they attacking those poor victims. I still remember how some Stays even edited photos of IVE girls into explicit content over this issue.

I've never seen gg stans making an issue over this, though it likely has happened to them too (except Blink, idk if they have done this or not). Every year, some of these bg stans attacking some groups after award shows due to this.

Why is it so important, especially if you're not Korean? In a place with hundreds of people, not everyone is aware of who's coming or bowing. Why does this matter?

  • I remember NCTzens made a big stink about Ive not bowing to and ignoring an NCT member while greeting Minju enthusiastically, but the member involved never mentioned it and didnt seem fazed. There was another scandal involving TXT and Ive that MOAs brought up but the TXT member involved never mentioned it.

I think the only time the stan outrage was relevant was with SKZ since Bangchan twice brought it up in his Vlives iirc. Obviously that was a mistake, no matter how hurt or upset you were about it, you just come off looking very insecure with a fragile ego by bringing it up publicly, it's a no win situation for Bang and SKZ. Esp since Korea didnt seem to care one iota about it or any of the other aforementioned incidents.

So in conclusion, i think everyone has learnt the lesson - nobody in Korea seems to care enough about bowing so need to raise a stink about it. :pepe-shrug:

  • Seriously, your Twitter TL... :pepe-cross:

actually i got to know about it when i saw some newjeans fan account i follow asking everyone to mass report a user who posted a gif of newjeans not bowing to suho and lol they probably actually got that exo stan's account suspended cos im unable to find that person's tweet anymore, it had like 500 likes. Here's other person talking about same thing

Some people take things way too far. :pepe-shame:

Not sure if this premise is true, I can recall many other times from 2nd gen and onwards where girl idols were scoffed at and bashed for not bowing sufficiently :/

Except he has never said anything about bowing, some people just made It up, because a specific video people THOUGHT he was talking about.

What he was talking about were situations he walk by people, said "anneyonghaseyo/hello" directly to them as a compliment and they completely ignored him. It can be read as bad manners in many cultures, to be honest, If the person's intention is really ignoring the other's greeting and there isn't any other external factor that influence in them not being able to reply.

I think the only thing he could've done to maybe avoid all this misunderstading was to not talk about it when a specific event was brought up, but there's literally nothing wrong in being upset about being it.

Thank you!! This narrative kpop fans have created is so weird.

He said it was confusing when people don't bother to SAY HI back, "we greet some people and they completely ignore it"- he never even said bowing a single time! The weirdos that are making it sound like he wants to be treated like royalty by female idols must be forcing a narrative out of dislike for him/SKZ because what are they talking about.. He even joked saying he must be a boomer. The only thing it's very clear now is that he shouldn't have talked about it in relation to being asked about a specific concert, like you said. That was a mistake considering many fans are crazy.

Walking past someone and saying hello at work and them just ignoring you is obviously considered rude to the majority of people. Like what colleagues are these kpop-stans supposedly having acting like it's SO bizarre to care about such simple basic manners?

And the issue of accusing idols of being rude is absolutely nothing new and not exclusive to BG fans. And other idols besides Chan have also talked about other idols not greeting.
