So, a Reddit post say that Kiss of Life gonna be the next big thing following a similar path to Bts

  • This is the Reddit post:

For me, people forget that BTS literally popularized social media in Kpop landscape. That's one of the reasons why their online hype matches the size of their fanbase.

For KOL, they're doing well with a lot of online hype among international Kpop fans now, but this isn't new. Before them, there were groups like XG last year and 50/50 earlier this year that these 'fans' swear will become the 'Next Big Thing' in Kpop. The same kind of excitement was seen with groups like Loona, Dreamcatcher, Cherry Bullet, and more during early of their days. Yet, not everyone becomes as big as Gidle or Stayc.

International kpop fans often get too excited about these groups until newer shiny nugu group come along, and the cycle repeats. We said these to top groups, but the narrative fits these nugu groups better. At least, those popular groups will still popular even if they're not on the top anymore, but these smaller groups? They have their high hopes seeing the hype they receive online just to be forgotten the next day when these kpop fans find new toys to hype or when their songs didn't as hit as before. Stayc and Gidle able to bounce back, but how many of these smaller groups will able to do so?

In conclusion, Kpop fans should stop taking online hype or hate too literal.

  • They were compared to bigbang and they were dragged for it. Why do you think nugu 2013/14 bts attracted the vitriol of big3 stans?

They weren't compared OMG please don't let kpop stans that joined two seconds ago rewrite the narratives. Only some members of vocal line had BB members as role models and vipers instantly took that as a personal attack that they would copy BB from then on. Not that they would be the next Bigbang :skull:

Vips didn't drag BTS bcs they thought VL would copy bb tho? They saw nugu BTS as a threat and therefore took to discrediting everything BTS did. In this case bcs some BTS members had bb members as their role models by some moronic twist of logic that meant BTS would never be able to overtake bb and would always live in their shadow. You even see the occasional vip on twitter still thinking this way.

  • How many times have we heard that about so many groups? People think that just because they like this one group who isn’t big yet, they’ll be big like bts. Basically saying if bts could do it, why not them?

Some K-pop fans are really gullible, forgetting that this is real life and not a fantasy

I think people also forget BTS was always building up their domestic and international fandoms side by side.

2015 - INU was their first song that did pretty well in Korea.. that same year was their first BB200 entry with HYYH pt 2.

2016 - Fire/BST (and the entire album in general for HYYH:YF) both did well on kcharts, they won MMA Album of the year & MAMA Artist. At the same time this was when they started topping the Social 50 (what would get them to the BBMAs in 2017) and became the first kpop act to chart in the top 30 of BB200 with WINGS at #26 and it charted for more than 1 week.

2017 - Spring Day -- do i even need to say anything about this song in korea...all i'll say is MMA SOTY in 2017. It also charted on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. this year was their "break out" internationally where they as a group actually started to decide to try giving themselves a push there. BBMAs 2017 happened. AFter this DNA was released with LY HER... which did insanely well in both KOREA & internationally with the only reason DNA not peaking at #1 in Korea being because they released alongside an IU release, and well DNAs international success is known (Hot 100 + 4 weeks charting), followed by Mic Drops (#28 peak with 10 weeks charting) and this continued.

So one can see... BTS always built up both their international and domestic success together side by side. and many forget it

  • The way this needs to be brought up everytime kpop stans start their “BTS became popular in Korea after gaining western success” lol

If all what they needed was a billboard #1, then boy groups should be ruling kcharts by now :skull:
