Please stop romanticizing Trainee&Idol-life

  • I agree that I am pretty negative about this, but I feel like I have to be realistic.

Sure there are Idols that expose their companies. I agree on that. However (negative incoming :), all the idols you mentioned are male, and in a male-dominated industry, it makes sense that they have more freedom than girl group members. At least for me. Sm men in Korea are against "Feminism" and hate on idols that seem feministic. I'm pretty sure most male CEOs think that way too. So, their male idols probably get more freedom. Another thing I've noticed is that none of the idols you mentioned debuted under one of the Big4 which again proves my point that especially the popular companies re extremely secretive about all of this. After leaving the company, most idols probably have to sign some Non-disclosure clause.

But you don't have to agree with me of course. Feel free to think whatever you want to :)

Umm if i'm not mistaken TXT has talked about their trainee days at bighit...and it wasn't pretty, again, you don't stan the groups you're not gonna know. Of course all that i mentioned are male idols, when have i ever shown or said that I stan gg's to sit here and talk about them? But you know sexualizing happens in males too, so many shawols on this forum will tell you til their red in the face the shit that was done to Taemin.

Sexualization is not just for girls. And so many people on this forum have expressed their outrage for minors debuting and how younger they are getting in groups. I was super cringed out when The Wind was revealed, but I am fine because HIGHLIGHT aka BEAST owns them and has done nothing but give them age appropriate attire and songs, they are doing it right and treating them right. What's there to be worried about, they know exactly what they are doing.

Smaller companies are probably worse then bigger companies because they don't have the funds, this I agree with to an extent. I also say, go watch Imitation also go watch Let Me Be Your Knight. Both focus on groups and some of the "things that happen behind the scenes" though Imitation felt rushed and Let Me Be Your Knight made me cry my eyes out. You can get a glimpse of "how it may be" based on those two drama's themselves.

But not every small company is this bad. One Pact is owned by Kangnam a former M.I.B member and they have full control over their own debut and everything, would I think they are being mistreated? absolutely not. But you talk about Ciipher and I will rant and rave about Rain and his stupidity all day, and that man DOES have money.

  • I understand the sentiment of this thread, and there are some horrifying accounts from former and current idols about the struggles of trainee life, but there are some exceptions.

For example, I've heard each NJ member talk about how much fun (and simpler obviously) their trainee days were.

There is pressure to excel and debut obviously, but none of the pressures that come with being constantly in the public eye, where one misstep could nuke your career.

Sorry, but what else would NewJeans be able to say? There is so much spotlight on them, if they said something, it would be a disaster. Hanni mentioned briefly that she didn't get Korean lessons, and everyone was angry at Ador immediately. Now imagine it was something seriously concerning... the company's imagine would be ruined.

Do you listen to their phoning calls? They're very candid and mostly unfiltered, which is how that stupid incident with Hanni happened in the first place.

Even in her recent short live, when Dani was flipping through their year book and came across a photo from their trainee days, she gushed over how much fun they had and how she missed those times, right before clarifying that she enjoys the present too.

It's a bit much to suggest she, and the other girls, are all just pretending due to some company directive.

I'm not saying trainee life isn't awful for some idols, but it's not awful for all of them.

ADOR is a company that clearly prioritized the mental and physical well being of their trainees, and lets them enjoy being kids as much as possible.

  • if they want to do it then it's their choice...

if you understand the consequences involved then it's an informed choice and they bear the consequences of their actions...

if you don't then that's on you for not understanding them...

and obviously not every training program is the same - everyone will have different experiences

oh and don't take everything you see on social media as "fact" - the silent majority is often drowned out by the vocal minority

  • Idol/Trainee life is hard sure but the Normal/Commoners life isn't any easy either

That something I also point out sometimes. Everyone works (well we that are lucky to have a job) and struggles. And it's easy to only remember "horror" storries from trainiess about long days and hard life. But I doubt every day is that bad for them.

  • After watching this documentary on trainee life, I knew I never in a million years wanted to be an idol in the industry. It's honestly terrible how trainees and idols are treated. I'll never understand the fans who romanticize it.

Watching this made me really think about the industry, I wish there was more like this and more awareness about the issue.

After learning about what happened to my faves (B.A.P, TRCNG and OmegaX), it is really hard for me to find something positive about the trainee life and the horrors we don't often hear about.

This was a great video, I hope more watch it with an open mind.
