VCHA "Y.O.Universe" Bop or Flop

  • Not saying they're perfect yet. They need a stronger concept that suits them, but they're off to a decent start. Not every debut has to be super strong. I don't like the song, but the potential is there.

There was a thread recently about diversity. Well, this is diversity done right. It doesn't seem forced.

  • Nana, sis, look at this. Why?

yep just like I said it these Korean companies want an to target America with an a Korean fanbase in mind the seem like they can't let go of the Korean fans if you want Americans or westerns as idols just take them in as trainee and make them debut in Korean group just like they're doing it with trainers form other asian countries seriously kpop companies need to learn from XG companies

  • 1. lexus and kaylee are such bad choices for this lineup cristina and gina would have been better for the group

lexus skills wise and performance wise was so weak the entire show i don't know what she's doing here because she was the lowest everytime

while kaylee looks too young to make the group look very cohesive

    2. this name is so bad

    3. the song is actually better than i expected in comparison of the song they perform in the last ep

it just lack a replay value

  • Voted blop because i don't like the chorus

Sounds better than I thought it would, but it definitely doesn't sound like this is made for adults. Debuting minors, and especially a 13 yo don't give you a lot of options. companies shouldn't debut minors in the us, it's s different market. Everything looks korean, they even have a korean name.

Eta: the guitar confuses me, it feels out of place

  • It's blop leaning towards bop

The opening structure is just so basic.

Kind of similar "nothing" to EL7Z UP Cheeky.

I hope it's not a new standard in KPop

  • Really solid song.

I think folks are really underestimating the tween/gradeschool audience. In Korea, Ive is the alpha dog precisely because they own this demographic. People using Disney as shade dont realize just how effing huge Disney was, their Disney Channel stuff was legendary in terms of impact, not just with kids but many of those shows and stars became household staples. Wizards, Hannah, Suite Life, so many others, they launched like a dozen careers in music and tv and movies.

But it seems like the Disney Empire has collapsed, kids abandoned the Disney Channel sitcoms in recent years. So the question is... does this audience still exist? Where did they go? And can JYP, Hybe, or others use Kpop sung in English to recapture this demo?

I don't think they are using Disney as an insult. People are asking who is this group for. Tbh, when the global group was announced i thought it would be a group for adults. But with members being minors he's obviously targeting tween audience. Younger people don't watch tv anyway, they use social media, I'd say the audience exists

I don't follow reality shows but i hope that hybe global group would be for grown ups

As for Disney collapsing; I'm glad that's happening, they've been invested in everything but creating a good program. In fact, when i see that a film or series is produced by disney i know i should skip it

I agree with you. Like Disney was HUGE in it's heyday, and they have birthed stars such as Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers, Zendaya, and most recently Olivia Rodrigo. Also more minor stars like Raven Simone, the Sprouse siblings, Vanessa Hudgens, and recently Sabrina Carpenter. Disney had us in a chokehold, and the fact Olivia is as huge as she is now shows they haven't completely lost their touch.

The opportunity is THERE, but will JYPE and Republic seize it. When I suggested that Republic give them a show on Nickelodeon, I was not being facetious. Like, the reason those names I previously listed blew up like they did is because they had shows that gave them direct access to the demographic they were targeting, they became stars amongst that demographic, and that demo grew up with them when they finally transitioned to more mature music and roles. I suggested Nickelodeon since Disney has their own in house record label, so I don't know if they'd be willing to partner with Republic and JYPE on something like that. Ariana Grande is also Nick's biggest star, and she's signed to Republic, so the connections are directly there.

I think that is the ONLY way this would work because otherwise, how are they going to directly target and access the tween demo? TikTok is also a possibility, but the risk there is that they will be directly competing with the likes of Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo for a similar audience, which may make them look even more childish in comparison.

The only person I know who has been able to successfully target the tween/early teen demographic without the help of a Disney or Nickelodeon vehicle is Justin Bieber. Maybe they can emulate his success, but the music environment of 2023 is very different than it was in 2009.

I guess it's the Korean/KPOP pride. They want to say, we took KPOP and made it global. Instead of conforming to Western ideals and standards.

But, I don't think their approach is going to work like they expect it to. They took all of the main things that have stopped KPOP from becoming mainstream in the West and threw it in one group.

The corny pop music, the extremely young members, and the outdated fashion...just all assembled into VCHA lol.

  • The whole group is bad and the song is terrible. I can't believe that they are gonna make this sort of disney channel music. I was really hoping that they'd make some actual good music.

I just don't understand what audience jyp thinks he's gonna get

Also I find it really weird that he kicked out Gina and Christina - I felt like they were both good.

    Gonna give my honest opinion.

I think when JYP said there was no fixed number for the final group, I think that was a lie. I think they always intended to have 6 members. That's the only way I can see them picking Kendall over Gina and not just making this an 8 member group.

I also think they had a certain "look" they wanted for this group, and because of that, we got what we got. We have 2 Asians, 1 Wasian, 1 Blonde, 1 Latina, and 1 Mixed (Black and Latina). I think they wanted more Asians in the group (because the whole point of this is to expand KPOP so kinda makes sense), they got KG because she looks All American (and also happens to be talented), they got Camilla cause she's Latina, and then Savanna for the black/Latina demo. I think they chose Savanna over Cristina because she fits Asian beauty standards more if you know what I mean. :eyes: And, I don't think they were ever going to have both of them in the group. It was one or the other imo.

I came to that conclusion since JYP was constantly hard on Gina throughout the whole show despite the fact she was doing great, and then, Cristina was in the Top 3 for the last few missions before the final. But suddenly during the final, he only had negative things to say, and then he said she wasn't "ready". I think he was already preparing us for the fact she was not going to make the group. A little bit of gaslighting was going on in that finale. But yeah, just my thoughts and observations after having watched the performances from the beginning.

This is JYPE's show, and it's their right to create a group based on their standards and ideals.

the problem is that you're talking of disney of the debut of 2010's

because since thenqme you listed i can name you bridgit mendler, ross lynch, laura moreno, kyle massey, rowan blanchard, debby ryan , peyton elizabeth... who are all disney stars who appear after demi, selena etc... and never had their break out moment because the disney type of show and song isn't relatable to teenagers of this days compare to what it was that's why Disney haven't been able to build stars since selena, miley etc...

Disney had us in a chokehold, and the fact Olivia is as huge as she is now shows they haven't completely lost their touch.

i wouldn't credit disney for the success of olivia, nonody knew her and where she came from

she suddenly became a start after driving license became viral, not because she was already popular because of thd high school musical show or else

and same for sabrina carpenter, she needed years after liv&maddie, girls meet world to become a star

disney gave them the exposure they needed to get recognize by other label but it just once they start to be promote and sign with these labels that they become stars

  • yeah i think youre right. i really hate how these shows do that though. it makes it feel so fake and its not nice to the girls
