Look, for me, they’ve always came across as a bit try hard. I think people would have passed them off as a novelty if they’d performed in their heyday. Not fair, I know.
If they had come up since Kpop was beginning to be more acknowledged in the US, then… I dunno, maybe… but then, would that have taken away some of the things their actual fans loved about them?

And I expected all kinds of answers from "Yes it would have been amazing" to "No The Grammys weren't ready yet for kpop back then" to "Maybe who knows".
But Army has zero tolerance for even suggesting someone could have beaten BTS to the Grammys.
"I want to ask a question and get a range of predictable answers". Do you want a discussion about it, or not? Either the Grammys take on Big Bang after G Dragon's slurs (wild to imagine), or they somehow get on the Grammys before this time (slightly more plausible)
or you imagine a world in which those words weren't said on national TV in a weaponised media landsape. That is a fantasy.
If they had more crossover tracks or a mostly English album, I could see it.
They are exceptional performers and G-Dragon, whether we like it or not, is an artist the likes of which we rarely see.
Still a lot of regret to see how it all ended for the group. I think they will forever leave us with this feeling of incompleteness. Their last song released last year was indeed a farewell song but we mostly said "such a waste". The trajectory followed by the group will have been in the end in the image of their music: bittersweet.
they would have worked out as well as the Wonder Girls did. the timing was wrong, and i don't think their style and attitude would've charmed the west. it would fall flat.

This doesn't even make sense. You have to be invited to perform (usually by being nominated) and the grammys invites who they want to. They invited BTS, not BigBang. How is the possibility of BigBang getting to the Grammy stage first even a part of this discussion? Take it up with the Recording Academy and stop trying to grasp at straws.
