They really captured the new gen in South Korea and globally, like SNSD did the 3rd. 
Their continued relevance and success 7 years in has really set them apart from the rest of the 3rd gen girl groups, especially domestically

I mean if we're being honest most trainee girls are bunch of edgy, hard try, bad girl wannabes who wanna do nothing but noise music and girl crush. Even Twice members themselves are like that. So not just BP but even Soyeon being there over so many more impactful idols is not surprising. It really isn't a popularity contest, more so image contest.
