since Korean media outlets ( aka mnet) are reporting some groups as part of 5th generation. Do you think that

I noticed this started when Mnet media played ZB1 as 5th gen lol. Now that all the records have been claimed or broken companies want to open up a new generation. 4th gen hasn't even reached it's peak yet. You have Fifty Fifty breaking billboard records.

All I can think of is that Mnet is debuting their 3rd Japanese group in 2 days and I have no idea who they have pre-debut in Korea

If NWJNS, IVE and LS are all fifth gen, fifth Gen would be the revival of GP's interest in Kpop groups/Digital Prowess. 4th gen without these 3 groups flopped hard in digitals, no Digimons at all

it took years for 4th to dominate. I would argue that 4th gen started in 2020 in terms of the generation shift started to take place with NL/wannabe. I personally think 4th gen might has started in 2019 but in terms of impact it was probably 2020 and onwards . Not that I'm agreeing with having a 5th gen this early but if it happens how would it be?

Anyways, I was just wondering if new jeans and ive might be rebranded as 5th gen later on for me new jeans, ive and babymonster same as nmixx and lsfm it would make sense for all of them to be in the same gen

That's what I'm saying. ITZY and groups that debuted during a similar time became a lost generation because 3rd gen was still dominating.

Now people don't know where to place them. If you claim some groups are 5th gen while 4th gen is still dominating, it creates confusion and also ambiguity for any groups that debut during that time period.

Either way, not a positive end result.

Social media really is going to make 2023 the start of the 5th generation, just like they made 2018 the start of the 4th.

If 2017 groups creeped into 4th gen it's already 6-7 years old now. So yeah, looks like if companies are wanting to claim BM, Riize and KOL and newly debut groups as 5h gen who's to stop them.
