This thread was inspire by this Group, and they are the one who fit the most this for me
I just refuse to believe that these 2 songs were release by the same group

So I can tolerate a couple of weird CBs tbh, plus Billlie are still new

what if their identity is changing things up every comeback?
My fav kpop groups never had a consistent sound or concept but did everything well.
-
Yeah i'm not saying they can't do some mistakes
But usually it's groups trying new things while still trying to keep their brand/image
And Billie is one of these groups who did well in the past by trying a lot of things while still sticking to a base
Like Gingamingayo was more fresh, cute, energetic than ring x ring but they still stick to this weird creepy vibe , that even if the songs was different from what they did it was still very billie-ish
They literally made a basic christmas song billie-ish by being able to still add their creepy weird vibe to it
RIng ma bell same they try to do a rock song but it still had their dark, creepy vibe of their past release
But for their latest cb it literally sound and look like they throw away everything they build this past year to become a new group and lost everyb'thing who made their brand and aestethic
-
Cherry Bullet. I loved their videogame concept and I loved their sound. Their songs are kinda still good but incredibly generic.
I really thought those girls were gonna be the best group ever, I was a diehard Lullet before they were even called Lullets

But if we are talking about the "quirkyness" of their title track, then it had been lost since RmB

i'm okay with that. as long as the group are happy with their direction, then I try to hear songs for what they are and not against what I expect from the artists "brand". if anything I'm more hyped for Billlie because they keep changing it up
-

For billlie, that wasn't their identity but they do mention that they want to explore many kind of genres

Yeah i'm kinda sad because i followed Billie before they even debut before siyoon and haram even join the lineup
And i remember how few months before their debut , their director did an interview and he said that that billie will have a unique flavour
And how he wanted to give them a concept who doesn't emphasize sexiness or cuteness
And how he wanted to radiate a consistant color to build a brand
And it's exactly his words who hyped me for billie debut and made me so much excited for their futur after ring x ring and Gingamingayo
So i'm kinda sad and a little bit mad that he seem to have forgotten his initial intention for billie
Or maybe the director of Mystic story change and the new one just didn't have the same intention for them

Before they even debut their director said that he'll give a new image to billie who will not emphasize sexiness or cuteness
And how he want to give them a constant color to create a brand in which people and mystic believe
So they were since the start build and promote as a group who were be different from the other
But i guess when they saw that it wasn't working they prefered to just follow the trend
Because ring ma belle was release during the rock time where tomboy was doing great in the chart
and now euinoa, is release during the time NJ is doing well
But well it's a bummer for us, all the bellie've who liked them for what they used to do, and considering gingamingayo is still the favorite song from them for a lot of ppl i think i'm not the only one who think this

Omg same
I loved their debut but wasn't sure to stan them
Then really really made me start to stan them
And after RR everything went downhill
Members leaving, completely throwing away the video games concept, music change, concept change for a girlcrush one etc....
-
Also what's your thought on a group that are becoming more mature?
-
Hm WINNER
I used to like their style in their debut (amazing album) and first comeback, It used to make them a lot different from other YG bgs.
After Taehyun departure, I loved Fool, but disliked Really Really. And they decided to follow the upbeat/tropical RR's sound, unfortunately, so I just lost interest eventually..

better than pretending to be teens for their whole career ig
-
Also what's your thought on a group that are becoming more mature?
Well i have nothing against it
Some groups are able to become more mature while still keeping their identity
Twice is the first example who comes in my mind
Fancy is much more mature than what they used to do with TT and cheer up
But it still have things who make of Twice what they are
Like the addictive and energetic hook, the still very colorful mv despite being more mature than their previous release, the easy choregraphy in the chorus easy to reproduce for anybody at home
Keeping an identity or a brand doesn't mean it needs to be a copy paste everytime
Most of the time it's in the detail
But when you can use these details to import them to new genres and new aesthetic, it help you to keep your identity while still exploring new things
I just think that some groups struggle to do it and most of the time exploring new things for them just mean using new grounds and build on new foundation

I was thinking that, I mostly just liked the fancy graphics in their MVs and pretty clothes though (when they had a "video game" theme). Sound wise though, I think they still have cherry + bullet = sweetness + power
EDit: I think if they didn't do Hands Up. Then maybe it wouldn't seem like they had changed. Hands Up was a cool switch, but then they didn't really go back until like Love So Sweet (maybe similar to Q&A) and Aloha Oe was kinda generic
-
it's not because they lost their identity, their identity is still there but I'm still waiting for something really awesome from them (like let's take the next step)
something only a vocal group can do
-
I think Loona fits the bill.
Odd eye circle and YYXY were a big change up from 1/3, in a good way.
Then they released Hi high which for a debut was a complete change to the previous 8 predebut solos.
Then Butterfly was quintessential Loona, but was followed up by two SM-lite type tracks. Then PTT followed by Flip That for another 180.
AOA as well, but for the better, dropping the band concept from Miniskirt onwards. Apink, Girl's Day and Hello Venus too I guess.

Billlie has always made this music, this title track sounds straight off of their the collective soul and unconscious: chapter one mini album.
