This proof that not all koreans knew or know about the meaning of the swastika.
BTS was very much in danger of permanently ruining their global career when this happened FIVE YEARS AGO and hit every global news outlet. BigHit had to do a lot of accountability work and apologizing. The very public, very global nature of BTS' fuck up makes it all the more surprising that kpop companies and idols continue to make the same mistakes. Did they not learn from what happened to BTS?
not justifying it but this was A LONG TIME AGO
anyways,
I never actually read up on the details of this scandal until now.
Imma react again the same way i reacted to all the other shit: these are nonevents. Unless you actually believe RM is advocating for the extermination of millions of people in gas chambers, it's just Kpop fans wanting to dogpile on a mistake to harass the shit out of BTS, Twice, etc. If some rando from Blitzers wore the hat, nobody and i mean nobody would care.

It blew up five years ago because antis were trying to stop BTS from gaining bigger global success. But the incident was a photoshoot done for a magazine back in 2014. They were already held accountable in 2014 but was more publicly in 2018. And even before that, everytime a Kpop idol fucked up, their stans would say “but Namjoon” and kinda shield their faves from truly learning from the experience.
Even with this current stupidity, kpoppies and media are bringing up Namjoon’s 2014 past to share the blame. I won’t be surprised if BTS will have bear the brunt of the hate again. I guess that’s why kpop idols never learn.
Just sharing for those who don’t know, the phrase “But Namjoon” is in the urban dictionary and he himself addressed it in Persona

2018 was legit traumatizing. I spent a week fighting with Japanese right wing antis on my ghost account on Twitter. 😅 I actually think BTS will be largely left alone this time, aside from a few mentions here and there. They're in a VERY different place professionally and culturally in 2023 compared to 2018. It will be difficult for anything to stick to them at this point and articles mentioning them also note that they made amends years ago. Twice is on their own with this one.
Do you want us to wish Twice received the same hate as what Bts received 5 years ago? The girls might go into hiatus directly if they get the same treatment as Bts do before. I don't want to wish anything bad to them, but if onces trying to drag Bts for what happen 5 years ago that they already apologized for multiple times, which they're the only kpop group to do so and not brush the issues aside like nothing happen, I think it's safe to say their fans want Twice to get dragged that bad too.
So they should.
