    Selection commitee

Kim Gura, who is well known for his knowledge on music

Jang Jiwon, music director working for KBS

Kim Youngdae, KPop columnist and an expert of BTS

Ko Youngbae, leader and vocalist of the indie band Soran

    ====

    Unequivocal

    BTS

    IU

    Psy

    With reservations (no order given)

    G-Dragon

Jay Park, for making hip hop mainstream in Korea

    Lim Youngwoong

    EXO

    BlackPink

    Excluded:

Akmu, Jang Bumjun, Bol4 and other indies which the vocalist for the indie band Soran deemed to be not that great. He nominated 10cm instead; apparently he is a friend of the 10cm guy.

It seems the positions of BTS, IU and Psy are more unassailable than I thought.

Kim Gura does not like IU too much - he is still upset that the singer who did take a photograph with a species of fish did not tell the whole story when she appeared on his show in 2013 and he has not seen her since then.

But he could not kick the singer who has done more harm to KPop than everyone else combined from the 'unequivocal' list.

Also Jay Park's reputation is quite high - some people might think he is 'not' the real thing, but it can't be denied that without him, the hip hop scene in Korea would not be what it is today.

    I will stop here.

  • The unequivocal is the most obvious.

Psy - pretty much the introduction to Kpop for millions of non-Koreans.

BTS - the indisputable global success of Kpop

IU - the unshakeable ruler of Korean digitals, which neither Psy nor BTS could shake, for all their achievements.

But at the end of the day, experts or not, it is just 4 guys shooting the air..

So the disputable can all be disputed.

Indeed, Gura was persistent in trying to break IU on the fishy business, but got nowhere.

  • Well, stopped reading there. Specious and an asshole.

If Kim Gura praised my favs I would hide it not brag about it

  • Kim Gura's moral viewpoints have no relevance to his industry knowledge.

Better to debate the choices proposed than his personality.

After all he could overcome his beef with IU and accept her dominance.

  • Kim Gura's moral viewpoints have no relevance to his industry knowledge.

    Disagree

Dude's a dickhead, and his industry knowledge actually isn't all it's cracked up to be. There are far better industry people who come without being anyone like Kim Gura.

He only survives because the PD/executives he works with is as misogynistic as him.

After all he could overcome his beef with IU and accept her dominance.

He overcame it because he was losing. IU's popularity was untouched and he was copping flack. You can bet to this day he'll be the first one, like our friend WhyKnock here, to celebrate her downfall. Probably why Whyknock likes him so much.

  • SNSD weren't dominant after 2012.. This is for 2010-22 period.

    Bruh :pepewhat:

2013 they had IGAB which was still a massive hit (yearly top 10) despite the insanity and sold a close to 300k plus had huge worldwide appeal on YouTube and touring. Popular on polls and regular on tv. No other gg was close to them overall.

2014 wasnt…….it wasn’t a great year. But it wasn’t really a great year for most ggs outside Sistar tbh but SNSD still had a lot success with album sales, good digital charting and huge tours. Did very well given the circumstances.

2015 was good digitally and physically but a decrease from previous years. Despite that though they were still by far the biggest and most popular gg around. Their tv show was a huge hit, their tour was setting records and popular in polls as usual.

From then it was pretty much their end at the top: 2016 was hiatus again but at least members settled into their chosen careers and 2017……the less said about the massive fuck ups by sm the better.

SNSD was dominant through 2009-2015, half the 2010s. It’s not even debatable, you just need to look through the numbers or see how they were still every where on mags, tv, polls and all that shit and compare that to rival ggs in that era who were nowhere near as well rounded or as consistent.

And that’s just SNSD limited to a group only. Its not counting their influence on Korean culture and media, influencing other idols/groups, their massive hallyu contributions that paved the way and so on. SNSD literally changed and shaped Kpop. That is dominance.
