Is NEWJEANS overhyped?

Change the word ‘attractive’ in the OP as it may imply that their fans find them attractive in a romantic aspect which many of us do not.

But tbh IMO its not really the fans overhyping, thanks to the surroundings of thier debut MHJ, Hybe, originality of concept and debut style, they are constantly being talked about. Fans haven't had a chance to overhype thier abilities as yet because so far, as far as I can see its pretty valid. They have charted incredibly well, presales have been amazing and so has the response to the music.

I think their music is overrated for now. Cause I only find attention as really good song, others are alright. I find lsm and aespa debut minis better.

I think they are fine...and they have good visual as well. It's even more important now that the competition for girls group get tense.

Boygroups need to upgrade because most of my favorite release, like 98% (debut) are from girls groups

All big 4 groups are overhyped. But I don't really care tho. It is what it is.

raw talent wise but have 2 really good songs, I think any of the stans that were claiming they would challenge IVE for ROY are fucking high

also, seems the bags going viral for buying kinda inflated the sales a bit, they got to 440K in 3 days, when the bags sold out, it slowed down to a more normal pace.

For a normal GG, yeah. But for a Big4 group, seems the same to me. I remember Itzy’s, aespa’s, les serafim’s, Nmixx’s hype. It’s pretty much like this except for Nmixx quickly fizzled when people heard the tt.

No I don't think they're overhyped. Maybe when they were first revealed people hyped them a little too much but now I see more negative opinions about them then positive. The only ones I really see hyping them up is there fans which is what they're supposed to do lol. Occasionally, you'll get a troll who will say they're going to end another group, and people will use it to drag nwjns even when it's obvious the fans don't agree with what the troll is saying.

About the music being overrated, I disagree because in my opinion music is subjective so it can't be rated in the first place. If people like something they like it. Everyone's gonna have different opinions. This is why kpop stans should just stop using the word overrated because it's always used as a way to undermine every popular group that has music they don't like. Well surprise, the group has popular music because the fans enjoy it. Sure, you can question if there are other reasons besides music for that group being successful because there will often be truth to that. But calling the music itself overrated seems like a waste of time for me because even though you can judge the production or vocal quality of a song, you can't really rate how enjoyable it should be, everyone will have different views. That's just my opinion though

I think they made a solid debut with some things that were different than the current trends. Nothing they’re doing is ground breaking and revolutionary - it’s all been done - but it is different to what some others have launched lately.

Like all Big 4 groups and some mid-tier ones, they’re overhyped. People will shout to the heavens that they are bringing back real music, 2nd Gen music, wholesomeness, ice cream and unicorns, which is the same thing people shouted very recently about StayC and Ive, just to name two off the top of my head. (The same thing happens on the other side of the genre too where each girl crushesque group is not like other girls and fierce and can dance complex choreo and better than the cutesy groups.)

Once the hype dies down, just as it has with the other groups when the next shiny group debuts or the old shiny group has a cb, it will be interesting to watch how they shake out in this jostling 4th Gen landscape.

well they seem pretty popular at the moment so I guess time will tell if it's overhyped or not...

I've said the same about her. Isn't a factor if I stan a group or not. I didn't like that about IVE and said that too. Way too young.

I don't like / liked that about IVE too and it is the only thing I don't like about NewJeans too.

My reasons for not being a NewJeans fan is their music because it doesn't appeal to me. They are not bad. Just not my taste. If they release tomorrow a banger after banger then I may be become their fan but I still say a debut age of 14 is way too young.

Well, I got no problem with the subject of your topic as I think it's normal. I've seen similar threads about many different 4th gen groups. It's just that always stands out to me when I see an IVE stan/supporter (I assumed that because of the badge) using the minor card to criticize Newjeans as they have a very similar age range including a maknae that debuted at 14. IVE also has a very mature concept for their age both aesthetically and sonically. If you had said that feel the same about IVE/LESSEO at the OP I wouldn't have made any comment on the thread.

I liked all their songs and find the members charismatic which is more than i can say about most 4th gen girl groups so to me they're not overhyped, i get the hype
