Cookie is too sexual for me

  • Like I love the song but the lyrics are just so suggestive. It makes me uncomfortable. The last 3 songs were age appropriate for the most part. But cookie..this is a group whose oldest members were born in 2004.

The song otherwise is good, reminds me of Illusion in that it's sounds weird at first but then you love it. It's very experimental

  • tbh its weird to me that some of yall can't just.. take lyrics at face value. why can't they be literally talking about baking a cookie? which is what they actually say in the lyrics? people are always looking at kpop with a western gaze.

  • I was uncomfortable listening to it, the lyrics are too sexual especially considering that age of the girls. I don’t really like the some either…. Maybe its the lyrics making me uncomfortable or the slow pace? Whatever it is, not my cup of tea

  • It seems i-fans are yet again lost in translation, not surprising how people pointed out that subtitles aren't entirely correctly translated.

Cookie lyrics is trending on theqoo and guess what, comments say how cute and childish it is. Also, they pointed out how Cookie=CD, because there is wordplay in lyrics that implies that Baking Cookies = Making CDs, hence, why CD is rolling in MV. This is why NewJeans said that this song is for fans: "We made the album as if we are baking the cookies for the fans".

I think ifans need to cleanse their dirty minds and go outside and chill instead of overanalyzing everything. It's beautiful out there, yknow.

Fuck, the cookie at the start and the CD at the end, can't believe I didn't pick up on this ITS LIKE ONE OF THE ONLY PROPS IN THE VIDEO

The CD analogy really makes sense, esp with how at the beginning a giant cookie rolls behind them and at the end its a giant CD.

narcissistic, my god i love it

  • They could sing about the most innocent topics on this earth (like a cookie) and there will always be those individuals that believe the lyrics are still sexual. It’s all because they are minors.

Not exactly, I mean look at Attention and Hype Boy. Those songs are about having a crush but the MVs (for the most part) and the lyrics were appropriate. It was all about teenage crushes,.

  • If the target audience are 15-18 year old kids, then it is sexual, but not offensive.

If the producers are targeting adults, then it is problematic.

I say for now, give them the benefit of doubt and say they created a song for teenagers that are at an age of discovering their sexuality.

  • then it is sexual, but not offensive.

respectfully I disagree, in the end if these minors are being sexualized the age demographic doesn't matter. but i see your point. It's why I'm glad their fans are girls more than boys. it's why jpop freaks me out, it's just straight-up soft-core porn with minors being aimed at men.

  • Listen, we all know when girls talk about cookie, and tasting their cookie, we know what that implies.

Then again, I did not read the full lyrics. The only thing I heard was Korean and you can have my cookie, but don't break my cookie. You can taste my cookie. There were also a couple of K-netz questioning the lyrics.

But, saying that to say, my first reaction was based on the English lyrics I heard, but if the full translation of the lyrics are comparing cookies to CDs then I guess it passes the smell test.

But, people shouldn't surprised that some fans find this uncomfortable. These girls are young af, and KPOP has a history of sexualizing minors. Better to be aware rather than ignoring what we know happens in this industry.

  • I saw the lyrics in spanish. In some point the lyrics Say: There is not dinner but You are hungry, there is not drinks but You are thirsty. And later they offer their little cookie. There is not food or drinks only the damn little cookies. What the hell is this? HOW da fuk this is not sexual :angryr::angryr:

  • You know, if the song said, come on over so we can watch netflix and chill.

International fans would think is about Sex.

NewJeans fans would say is an innocent invitation to watch some movies.

  • in english, cookie is slang for female genitalia. and honestly the english translation is really suggestive ?( if i played it for someone who doesn't know anything about kpop or newjeans but showed them the lyrics, they would assume it was a dirty song.

idk. i'm having a hard time believing it's as innocent as people are saying it is, but it seems like there's smth being lost in translation.
