I’m not lie and deny how successful BTS are, but in terms of influence, BLACKPINK are the most influential 3rd generation group.
They changed the girl group landscape. Everyone and their mothers were doing cutesy concepts from until 2018. After DDDD, we see this shift present in the debut of Everglow, Itzy, Aespa, and in the comebacks of almost every single girl group. Not just the sound, but in terms of fashion and outfits. Flashy designer clothes became a staple. You also see less members debuting nowadays. From 9-12 being the usual to now less is more.
They changed how idols are being promoted. You see how so many idols are partnering with fashion brands nowadays like IVE and AESPA. Who is that thanks to? BLACKPINK.
They changed how idols promote literally. You isn’t see idols on programs any more. Why is that? Because BLACKPINK never went on them and their comebacks remain successful. This ultimately has had a negative impact on idol groups because Koreans don’t know any of these new groups because they don’t promote.
They changed the actual sound of Kpop. Specifically they popularized the no chorus chorus and harsh transitions that we see everywhere. There is also a much more clear western sound in Kpop largely due to Blackpink. They, also with BTS popularized western collabs. Dua Lipa, lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, and Cardi B. After how successful kiss and make up was, we see more groups collabing with western artists like Itzy with that girl I don’t know her name.
The most important change that was proven by BP, that in K-pop it is unnecessary to release songs, to be popular and profitable.
6 years and not even 60 songs. Once a fandom has been created, scarcity itself is a very good strategy. So modelling, CFs, events, social media stuff etc.. but music, that is not that important.
The list goes on and on. All in all, numbers aside, BP are the most influential 3rd generation group
