While it is true that Melon is losing market share, I also think it’s true that GP is less interested in kpop now than they were before and that also contributes to the progressively low ULs we see

I mean everyone be it soloist or group is getting similar uls so....

Yes like I said there is less market share now the point of the thread is for idol groups that’s not the only contributing factor.
-
I agree, general public has gotten less interested in kpop, that's why I don't blame companies focusing more towards western market
-
K-pop in Korea hasn't been what it used to be for over a decade now.
-
I bet most Kpop fans don't even know that Melon only has 5 million users. Not sure why so much importance is placed on it anymore.
It's not the achievement it used to be.
It's the MySpace of Korean streaming platforms.
We've entered an era that only BIGBANG, IU and Lim Youngwoong can dominate Melon...and probably GD when he releases a solo.

I thought It was a Jipdori thread
I genuinely don’t know who that is kekeke let me see what they post about
Oh it’s the one who makes epic thread titles… it’s an honor

Everyone knows this. Literally everyone.

Wut? It is literally the biggest streaming service in Korea, still twice as big as YT Music and Genie. It's the only relevant Korean music chart, more relevant than the Gaon Digital Chart which measures $$ earned, not GP popularity.
5 million is equivalent to 33 million American users.
-
Aren't most other non-kpop songs getting similar ULs to K-pop songs? The title makes it seems like Koreans are losing interest in Kpop and other genres of music are so now so much higher in Korea

Partly correct.
Incorrect is calling it more relevant than Gaon, which incorporates Melon data and other charts as well.
It is the ULs which Gaon does not provide, which makes Melon's useful.
Correct is that it is still the dominant market leader and therefore can't be dismissed at all.

Gaon is wayyyy more relevant.

The title is very clear it acknowledges the loss in market share (explaining the overall lower number) while specifically saying for idols it’s not just that but also more specifically a loss in interest as well.
-
yes it's really bad for bgs. GGs are doing great.
-
Honestly, non-fans GP started losing a lot of interest in idols since 3rd gen imo. It's just most noticeable in recent years and the impact of it is starting to really hit
I think ggs will always have success with the GP to some extent but bgs are pretty much done for at this point imo
Except for a few who have established themselves, even ones that release public friendly songs can barely chart or make impact at this point. There's a reason why they have all focus on fandom + the west

gotta go where the money is!!!
