Sexy ggs had hits but very less album sales. Not shocking. They didn't have the stannable image. But their concept had mass appeal. But in today's market can they obtain a fandom at the level of cute and gc ggs?
Do you think a sexy girlgroup can obtain a strong fandom in today's kpop market?

Unlikely

depends on what kind of sexy
-
I think sexy is concept that can only be pulled when GGs are slightly older. Other wise it’s either creepy or kind of like playing dress up lol.
Perhaps any of the existing GGs can shift to a sexy concept and it might see sales and popularity.
But debuting young connecting with a impressionable teenage audience that’s what gives you a fandom IMO and sexy concepts are at a disadvantage there.

What if there was?
depends on what kind of sexy
U know 2nd gen type? None of them sold well. Some of sistar, girls day songs fall in that category.

Yes I think it is. That's how Dreamcatcher is selling 100k+ I think.
-
Yes if they do it right. 100% sure. Imagine a new mature, well produced gg with songs like Kara, AOA, Sistar, Girl's Day. Charismatic members like Choa, Hyuna, Gain, Hyolyn, Irene all in one gg. Duo concept like bright summer x dark elegant. With some catchy pop music, talented and gorgeous women. They would do amazing I'm sure. And they would stand out.

I am not sure the comparison works here. Dreamcatcher found a niche while these ggs are mass appeal.
especially now with how common and untalked about its becoming to debut kids.
Yeah no kids for such concept. I'd say everyone should be above 20.

some of girl's day choreos were too outright and provocative tho, it just uncomfortable watching, i think the concept can be done in different way, and both of them are not big 3 gg so not selling well is already given.

This totally makes me want to have my own rich kpop company so I could make this dream come true

This.
I mean, do I think a sexy girl group would become the indisputable #1 girl group in this hypothetical fourth/fifth gen reign? No. But Sistar had NINE back-to-back #1 hits and every song of theirs was a top 10 hit. From 2010-2017. AOA's breakout hit was Miniskirt and they slayed with that concept until they did poorly for reasons unrelated to their concept. Hyuna was so successful as a sexy soloist that 4Minute was jokingly referred to as "Hyuna and her backup dancers" even though 4Minute was known themselves.
It's not like it was this weird niche image that only the nuguest of nugus did.
-
I think having fandom is much more to do with the group having stan attractor members rather the concept imo, but the group should also be suited to the concept, they should do the sexy concept if only they want, if forced or company suggested then it just wrong

If BP turns into a sexy concept in the future, then yes

Music is still the main reason why they are popular, so I don't know why sexy gg could not be popular by same reason.

Because the music was always popular for sexy ggs?
-
What does a sexy gg mean? Dancing in bikinis?

I feel there will be conflicts
Conflicts?

Of course they can. I'm more shocked about the fact that they aren't the most successful trend for girl groups, since it seems such an easy win.
Sexy as concept has been the prime dominant theme for girl groups and female artists in the US for decades, Pussycat Dolls one of them.
Sexy groups also did well in South Korea, with groups like Sistar.
It stands to reason that with the focus on global popularity and success, the sexy style would be the winner for K-pop groups. Yet somehow it isn't.
My guess is companies haven't been able to figure out how to make it work for their groups, in a way that brings success in both South Korea as internationally.

Naah, lesserafim has underaged members. It wouldn't be appropriate

Of course. Groups like Blackpink and Aespa are best examples of this. They have sexy image with girl power sprinkled over it. Sexy attracts mostly male fans and the girl power attracts female fans.
Why 2nd gen sexy gg concepts didn't succeed in album sales is because they were overly sexy that turned away female fans. And female fans buy albums and merch much more than male fans.
-
Sexy can be concept for a slow love song but it gets boring if a gg does it all the time. So yeah, branding a gg as sexy is not right.
-

thanks did not knew this, it really would
-
I think they pretty much can run over the groups that aren´t internationally famous
even get to n°1 on natinal level, like brave girls
but then of course they would get a lot of hate from the fansites from other gg
-
An experienced idol like boa who has leverage with her company..maybe..barely legal gg idols who will adopt it if it gets popular. hell fkn no.
Sexy concepts have way more male kpopfap follower fans than female fans because it's straight up uncomfortable to watch young girls dance and dress provocatively, constantly pulling down their clothes and covering up. Consent is a big big question mark when it comes to these concepts.
If they are of age or even older idols putting them and their body out there just to fit in with some libfem bs is not my cup of tea.
So many female idols like Irene, nayeon, tzuyu who aren't rookies in the industry had to constantly pull their clothes down because of how sexualised they were.
Sexualising women has been making money forever. I thought we as a society are ready to see more from them rather than sex packaged and sold for the 100th time ever. Pop/kpop has a huge reach amongst the generation that will take over our future we can demand for a newer form of liberation like getting a fucking degree or a job that's in the position to change the world as we know it for the better. The entertainment industry made slave contracts and being mobbed by people sound glamorous so they can most definitely glamorize just about any profession.

I don’t see why not. We’ve seen sexy become very popular in the past and a lot of other concepts like cute and girl crush also reached success.
The only issue is that sexy has been dead for a long while so there’s no one setting a new trend. There’s need to be Sistar or Girls Day type group to get the ball rolling. Then a couple years later when everyone’s doing sexy people will be sick of it lol
-
Yeah, some of 5th harmony biggest hits were sexy concept, I don't think there's such a thing as a concept stopping a girl group obtaining a strong fandom, is matter of the company knowing how to direct things... you have to give GOOD content to make people connected to the members (and obv charismatic members lol).
