When Tzuyu Is Happy We Are All Happy
It's Eman.
I'm back to tell more folktales about Tzuyu.
A Taiwanese grandmother told me a new story.
She said Tzuyus have always been symbols of happiness.
It was said that peasants and village ladies used to knit pendants in the shape of a Tzuyu that they would hang in doorsteps as good luck charms. When you passed through the door to start your day you would look up and the Tzuyu smiling down at you would ensure your day would be happy and full of luck.
Grandmas would give sick or sad children hot tea and they would drink it making wishes to Tzuyu that they might feel happy knowing Heaven was watching over them. It would help them feel better.
If you were ever lucky enough to see a Tzuyu in real life, it was said to bring happiness and prosperity to you and your family.
One village in a time of famine was said to have been blessed with surplus food and crops for 10 years after a local farmer saw a Tzuyu smiling happily in the forest one day. A single Tzuyu saved an entire village.
A Tzuyu smiling and happy is surely heaven smiling upon you.
This is what the grandmother told me.
