So it seems the Korean Music Awards (KMA) are adding a kpop category

It's already being said that KMA lost all its credibility it had doing this....
At last, KMA joins all the other award shows as it's no different from them, THAT'S THEIR STATEMENT, NOT MINE.
From what I can see, The outrage is about KPOP groups having more chance to win the so-called PRESTIGIOUS KMA and people will run out of things to say "Your faves didn't win KMA"... And they are, from the looks of it, mad about that loss of bragging right.
I am just having fun seeing people bending over backwards, doing mental gymnastics.

They made a new category where they could nominate only idols groups. I don't know how is goint yo work tho.

It's like the at the 2021 Grammys where Folklore won Album of the Year but lost Best Pop Vocal Album and Everything I Wanted won Record of the Year but lost Best Solo Pop Performance

if it means no kpop act will be in the main/ other awards then that's whack (basically what american awards do with kpop and latin music) otherwise i don't know

I think kpop is rising so much and normal Korean pop (I didn’t even know it exist) can’t compete to their sheer number of album sales, streams etc. So they boxed kpop (which most Korean GP think is for kids) into an exclusive category so the rest of the genres don’t have to compete with them.

Yeah but this is a KOREAN award show that’s suppose to acknowledge and award musical excellence.. kpop is inferior overall when talking about streams in Korea. Sales, charts etc. have always been irrelevant at this award show anyway.
Like some groups have been nominated and even won daesangs at this award show before so there’s really no point in making this category unless they’re planning on making a tv or live stream ceremony and want fans to tune in.. which would suck because almost every other award show is over saturated with flop idols and other acts aren’t even given a chance to promote their music.
They should of just kept it the way it was.. if you want a nomination then step your pussy up.

It’s apparent not for idol groups though. Because it’s really degrading to me of they compartmentalised kpop.
Like some groups have been nominated and even won daesangs at this award show before so there’s really no point in making this category unless they’re planning on making a tv or live stream ceremony and want fans to tune in..

Yeah and even then alot of Koreans don’t know BTS’ music. They know of them and their achievements, but don’t necessarily care for or know their songs.

lol I wonder if this is their way of trying to separate regular pop music from “idol music”. As if there’s really any difference. It’s all pop music… whether they think idols make good music or not is a different discussion.

This seems like an effort to silo kpop away from the main awards like US awards do. It makes no sense to have a separate kpop category because kpop groups/artists can and have won awards at KMA based solely on the merit of their work. There no reason they can't continue to compete in regular fields as long as they're good enough.
