Misconceptions people have about your faves?

I'll start first with one of my faves.

Dawn (formerly known as E'Dawn). People keep saying he looks like a dr*ggie and that his eyes are weird. He actually has an eye condition that makes his eyes look different and makes his gaze unfocused. He used to feel very confident about his blushy makeup because it made him feel that he looks softer and more approachable. Then some 'fans' started telling him he looks like a dr*g user. That was horrible. He finally had some confidence and his own fans brought him down so much. I remember when he talked about it. He was so sad. Not only was he made fun of and bullied in school due to his eyes, he had trouble making friends later on, he also got made fun of by 'fans' and general public. He's such a nice person. He has plants that he takes care of and loves, he is kind. He's thoughtful. He works hard and yet what people judge him on is something he can't change.

I have a massive soft spot for Dawn. To be honest, I was so shocked when I found out that he suffers from Narcolepsy and is taking medication for it. I hope he’s doing well, he’s seems like such a sweet person.

Anyways, the most common misconception people have regarding Stray Kids is that they only make ‘Loud EDM Songs’. The next biggest misconception is that they have a ‘dark concept’.

I’ll explain the latter first.

The only remotely ‘dark’ song Stray Kids have is probably ‘Chronosaurus’. However, if we’re being picky, the song isn’t simply ‘dark’ because it has spooky synths - personally, it’s ‘dark’ because it sheds light on how fickle the concept of time truly is. Sometimes, it feels like time is catching up to you, and you’ve got to move on with your life, other times, it feels like you’ve got all the time in the world. That’s what ‘Chronosaurus’ is truly about - literally it’s about a ‘sound beast’ (what the song was originally going to be called).

Stray Kids don’t have a dark concept. They just shed light on serious themes. ‘Side Effects’, which is considered a ‘dark’ song, is about a reactionary response to changes in life and what type of emotions such a change can prompt.

Same thing goes for ‘3rd Eye’ - often considered a ‘dark’ song. 3rd Eye is about identity confusion and it almost seems to describe an existential crisis. This song isn’t meant to be sung in dark leather outfits with severe makeup - and neither is ‘Chronosaurus’ or ‘Side Effects’. They aren’t simply ‘songs with dark concepts’. They’re just songs with serious themes which people ignore and seem to equate to dark concepts.

Onto the main theme. Stray Kids do make EDM bangers. That’s a fact. What’s also a fact is that almost half of their albums are filled with emotional songs that don’t have EDM drops.

It’s annoying to have such a misconception destroy people’s chances at discovering sentimental songs like ‘Behind The Light/Mixtape 2’ or ‘Sunshine’ or ‘Secret Secret’. These songs are simply ignored due to the misconception that Stray Kids only make EDM songs.

It's one of the biggest misconceptions I've seen about a very popular Kpop group.

They have the numbers, the recognition, the hits, the respect (all the members, not only a few), the longevity. If these aren't requirements enough...

I know so many people that got into K-POP because of SHINee. If that’s not an indication of being a top group, I don’t know what is.
