Wanna One has its accomplishments but went down in sales after debut white Seventeen is still growing to this day. An argument could be made with NCT for the 3rd slot as well

EBW in Korea for sure, but internationally WO is like nugu compared to Seventeen or NCT.

That’s what surprised me as well, so definitely had a good laugh there. In what way is Seventeen full of controversy? Most of their scandals were misunderstandings, and weren’t a big a deal.

Back to the thread topic:

This topic was very heavily debated back in 2017-2018, I remember people being split 50/50 at that time, because of W1’s overwhelming public recognition and digitals in Korea, and Seventeen’s strong physicals and touring. However, I would say W1 did have a bit of lead over Seventeen at that time.

Though, now I don’t think this should be a debate, because 1st of all, Wanna One disbanded, and Seventeen’s popularity and other success metric isn’t comparable to their past self. There is no metric to compare these two anymore. Plus, Seventeen has grew rapidly ever since 2019 hit around. They have been very digitally stable as well. Aju Nice was a hit, but people over look it because it wasn’t as big as Bboom Bboom or Love Scenario. They have also made and broke numerous records, as well as received awards by the South Korean government. Their variety web series itself is a huge hit in Korea. 5 million-seller albums back to back, and 2M seller album as well. Even to this date, variety shows, all the way to survival shows, still use the term “EBS” to describe the TOP 3.

I guess Koreans will talk from Korea’s perspective. No matter what in Korea nct and 17 both do not have a hit song like energetic and that plays into the ranking.

Oh wow a pann post (notoriously hates Seventeen, chased out basically all carats) translated by pannchoa (also notoriously hates Seventeen and translates the most random/irrelevant hate posts on them including that nasty Woozi one) and it's all about hating on Seventeen. And since I'm already on rant, might as well mention that Seventeen themselves don't like the term EBS and were the first ones to ask people to stop back when it became a thing in the media 2016/2017 because they knew the hate it would bring to them. Similarly the majority of carats also didn't like it because to this day it's still being used to drag them and say they're not good enough

Anyways the fact is both Seventeen and Wanna One has made impact in their own ways and it depends on the metrics you want to use to determine #3. The explosive success Wanna One had in their 2 years or Seventeen's slower but long/steady success. Also funny how rookie Seventeen was used for covers from the competition show that created Wanna One but are also somehow irrelevant with no impact at all and total flops hmm Rant done.
