is mnet rlly never going to let go of survival shows?

  • i think its one thing for them to continue to host survival shows for other companies on their channel like i-land. but to basically rebrand pd101 as girls planet and revamp it with all the things knetizen will have shit to say about (i.e foreign trainees), is super out of line imo. i don't get the obsession with trying to recreate a trend that died already when they've already lost all credibility and trustworthiness. the kpop market is too oversaturated for this shit and subjecting chinese and japanese trainees to this shit is so slimy.

  • Never in a million years. The amount of money they make exceeds the amount of hate they get (its usually the group members that receive hate the most).

  • Kpop is only over saturated if you come from a small company without a platform.

Kpop will never be over saturated for big companies/companies that have a platform like Mnet. There groups will always get attention and generally always be profitable. Until a survival show group bombs and bleeds money, Mnet will continue to do it.

Also the public shouldn’t have trust in them, but kpop fans still eat up these shows, so again, unless this changes, might as well keep milking it.

  • Mnet when they do survival show and someone caught them with vote rigging

this statement doesn't make much sense to me. the market being oversaturated means the market is oversaturated. and yes, that affects groups from large companies. we know it does. now that izone has disbanded all them members besides the akb girls will disappear into obscurity. that was the main issue i was referring to in terms of oversaturation anyway. also it seems you're forgetting idol school which was mnet's personal biggest commercial failure. fromis_9 is still a struggling mid tier group that i doubt made back all of the investment put into them. also can't imagine the loss they took having to let go of x1 prematurely. but they're still at it. no amount of commercial failure will stop them

  • I don't think they "rebrand" Produce 101

.... except if they maybe lost all rights to that name to Japan now since they held 2 seasons since the scandal had happend in Korea and Japan said they have actually nothing to do with Korea ....

PS: PDJ is a liar because the intro of the first season was filmed in Korea and a few different KPop-idols as for examle Lee Daehwi or Dawn helped producing songs for the show ... but actually most on the show is really quit different to the Korean one

  • Why would they? The Produce groups were their cash cows and the show was still going strong before the rigging scandal broke out (X1 would’ve been huge if they continued). They’ll keep pumping them out as long as there’s demand and and the groups bring in $$$.

They probably already have plans for Boys Planet 999 for next year.

  • Do people really care about Produce getting rigged? No.

Are people still going to watch Mnet's new survival show? Yes

So is there any reason for them not to make them?? No reason.

its literally is a rebranded pd101...thats the point. they had to rebrand it bc they said out of their own mouths they would never do another pd101 season.

  • Nah. That's not something that should be excluded....

theres a difference between a company having a survival show aired on mnet for their own group and mnet hosting their own survival show for a group who's subsequent profit will go directly into mnet's pocket. idk what hard to understand about that.

No. There is literally no difference... Survival shows are out of Trend and should have been stopped last year and that includes I-Land as well..

    I love Pikachu.

    Always have, Always will.

this thread is about mnet being obsessed with survival shows, particularly their own. they can't be blamed for other companies still wanting to do it for themselves? you're not rlly adding anything of value to the convo by saying this

So they lost thr rights on the shows's name to Japan than? (Wouldn't surprise me if TBS and Yoshimoto Kogyo had the rights on the show's name now ... (but than again who thought... the company for PDJ's winner groups is 50% owned by CJ,E&M ... hm)
