Is time to put BTS apart from kpop in terms of success.

  • There is a moment a music act is beyond a music genre or popularity status..

BTS is just beyond Kpop and shouldn't be compared to Kpop acts in terms of success or impact.

some artist become just too iconic to be in the same conversation, for example Beyoncé to be compared with these new pop girls or even the older acts... so they shouldn't be the standard for any Korean act or to be in the same conversation when we are talking about who are the most successful

BTS is the most successful act in the world in general...

    Congrats BTS

  • Thanks for this post , but i thought it is known fact? They are going to cross 100 million equivalents by end of 2022 ( only 4 artist who debuted in 21st century has done that and took longer time ). They are legendary already

Keeping sales apart their legacy goes beyond it

50 billion won economic effect over 10 years, creating jobs

A law has been passed down on their name

    Grammy nominated

Order of merit. Only idol group to do so and being youngest

Infact even someone outsells them in future, they have made that legacy which is untouchable . It goes beyond numbers now.

  • I am here before this thread Crunch the nerve of some.

Waiting for the "Diamond award" for BTS being the 7th artist & youngest in terms of career in this world to achieve it.

    :groovins:

  • i know this is for praising them, but they're still kpop. kpop is just mainstream music originating from south korea. it doesn't box them or hold them down in any way, it just tells people that they originate from south korea and is a part of south korean culture

  • True. I think if BTS isnt Kpop anymore, you might as well pencil in BP as the biggest Kpop act globally then lol.

Don’t use logic here, I think it’s supposed to be an appreciation Thread.

  • People just need to let go of BTS when they are having a dick measuring contest involving their fav groups.

Are they better than BTS (achievements) - no

    Will they be - no

Is there a chance? - no

    Well.. - no

Any kind of comparison is over.

  • Apart in what - charting, awards?

Yes, extreme dominance of any one player in any one field can be counterproductive to the field. But the way to handle it, is not by barring the player, but rather redefining the parameters.

    Few for examples can be,

    1. Kpop awards, will be only on songs where the composing, production and performance is by predominantly Korean - 80% or some measures can be added.

    2. Songs should be predominantly korean in lyrics.

    3. Only Korean market will be considered for sales and other factors.

    4. Winners of one year, are not candidates in the next, but be in the judges panel.

    etc.

In any case, taking a historical view, all dominance is transient, BTS will also pass.

Today at a convergence of social media, WWW, globalization they ride an unusual combination - of course with their fantastic talent as the basis.

But the same things make dominance relatively shorter than previous decades.

There are also huge benefits to their popularity, many foreigners might discover other Kpop, Korean culture while checking out BTS and thus benefit Kpop.

So I would vote for letting them be. Good while it lasts.

    Congrats to them .

  • Honestly I feel like the success of their English songs (Worldwide) can be a problem for them. Last year they made 1 English song and people think that's all they did. They released 2 Korean albums and people forget about them just because of the dominance of 1 English song.

PTD looks like it's not going to be big like Butter so I expect more of a backlash by people who don't like them.

  • "Beyond Kpop in terms of achievements" was what most meant.

The term 'Beyond kpop' came about because some Kpoppies were saying BTS isn't kpop anymore etc...

  • which is the first thing that i stated in my comment. did u skip the first 7 words??

I was being sarcastic here… I was agreeing with you. ;-)
