I think people do that in controversial/troll threads since they don’t take the fanwars seriously or the argument might be ridiculous. I think it would be weird to go into a thread that the op is expecting a serious/legit discussion and just commenting “here for the free akorns”, might as well just say something related to the topic.

I personally use akorn farming on those threads to show the OP just how much I think their thread is worth - no deep thoughts, just an akorn.
I respect other non-trolling threads and don't comment unless it will further discussion or the acknowledge a post!
