EDIT: I had to remove two tweets from a fan account for Junhan's bubble, as they went private due to the situation.

My god if this isn't one of the strangest things I've seen an idol go on and on about...

  • What does “break down sugar” mean?

I feel like I'll disappoint him if I, as a white person, tell him I don't even know what that means.

Based on a Google search, it means "Sugar breakdown, also known as cellular respiration, is the process by which the body converts sugars into energy. This involves a series of steps that ultimately break down sugar molecules, like glucose, into simpler compounds, releasing energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate)."

I assumed it had something to do with baking haha

i need this. i have way too much sugar and no energy lol

  • I'm not familiar with the group but what motivated him to make this post? Also, is he an edgy person?

It all feels so strange to talk about this all of the sudden. The racial stereotyping seems very barbaric, and it's the type that is very dangerous regarding the groups affected by it. I think he thinks these are compliments the way he phrases some of it.

I am still wondering if there's any type of racial and cultural sensitivity training in kpop. It just feels it happens way too often and idols not learning from others mistakes.

  • how does one organically get to this topic lol

I've been searching Twitter and I can't seem to find what exactly prompted him to say this. Before the fan account posting the translations went private, I saw him talking about a professor and schoolwork? So maybe something regarding his schooling resulted in him thinking about this stuff? Obviously his education isn't that good if he's spreading this nonsense.

I'm assuming he's saying white people have a faster metabolism and don't gain weight?

Never heard this stereotype for white people before. I thought that was associated with Asians

  • Everyone should know this by now after the countless scandals we've endured in just the last 6 years or so - stan idols for their looks, their music, their stage performance, and their IDOL persona.

Never stan them for their character or values, or what they truly think, because most of the time, you will never ever know and for some, you will never WANT to know. Idols are human beings with the exact same flaws as the rest of us.

I could see schoolwork possibly being the reason to randomly talk about it. If it's schoolwork, I don't think a person would discuss their work in that manner. I am just unsure why he would post about something like that on a public forum. Also separating Indians from Asians is another problem. So much to unpack here.

  • for asians or white people? if it's for white people, that's not true at all, mcdonalds has always been expensive here

They probably mean White Americans. McDonalds is really cheap here

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that my intention with this here reply of mine is unclear. I am not supporting this stereotype about white Americans. I am a white American and I have been on the receiving end of such a stereotype and I don't support it. My intention was to simply inform a fellow user who was not aware of the meaning of this stereotype. <3

I meant like it doesn't make sense for him to think white people don't get fat when their national food is mcdonalds, and like how USA's obesity rate is more than 40%

If you walk down the streets of say Japan you will literally not find a single fat Japanese person for instance

Icy this is NOT it. First of all, yeah the US has a huge fast food issue because of the corporations here. However, not all Asians are stick thin. And Japan has people of multiple sizes so assuming that they are just all skinny is kinda, idk.. it is kinda gross. Cause what if were have a Japanese person join the site who does not weigh roughly 100lbs, they are gonna feel like shit, dude.

I have friends who are active Korean musicians who are not stick thin. Assuming that everyone is just skinny because of race is pretty bad. Not trying to be an ass but this was really poor taste.

Changed the title of the thread from “Concern over XDINARY HERO Junhan's Bubble Posts (Eugenics?)” to “Concern over XDINARY HERO Junhan's Bubble Posts About Eugenics”.
  • I will go ahead and reopen this thread after reviewing it all. However due to this being about some very VERY touchy topics that are happening in today's current events all over the world, I am gonna move this over to the current events. I do this as I understand some people in the community will not want to see discussions around genetic "bias" and/or the other type of race related comments the artist in question made on his Bubble account.

I know this hasn't been a issue yet but please keep this thread clean of spewing stereotypes about people of certain races. Just saying it as a caution.

We are an community of many different ethnicities and we need to be kind to everyone. Even if the freaking world is on fire as it is literally in some places currently, we should be kind. Honestly, we should be more so when it is on fire.

that's because fast food is more expensive in Japan.

American citizens have it rough, food regulation is horrible in USA. A lot of processed food and Ingredients that are forbidden in EU are allowed in USA. the most iconic example is European and American fanta. American has radioactive colour. God knows what's in there.

    Eta: here's the pic

Several years ago we had an issue with aflatoxin. In milk limit in EU and here is 0.05 µg/L. Our milk had 0.5 µg/L. You know how we solved it? We exported corn to USA because their regular limit is 0.5 µg/L.

    Compare us vs uk ingredients

You have gazillions examples on the internet with Americans who spent some time in Europe, ate the same as they ate at home and they lost weight. Or vice versa. My sister's friend lived for a year in USA. She ate the same and gained 10 kilos. It's not that simple as you paint it to be.

  • that's because fast food is more expensive in Japan.

Also, I think it's interesting that it's expensive for y'all but cheap for us. A lot of people here genuinely can't afford healthy food - or at least they don't have the time/energy to do the amount of research it takes to find the good stuff amongst the plethora of unhealthy stuff we have in our grocery stores. People with low incomes are usually overworked and some find that they need to rely on stuff like fast food to get by, which may unfortunately result in bad eating habits.

This obviously doesn't apply to every person who has a low income, many do manage to make it work. But I do sympathize with the exhausted who feel like they have no other choice but to rely on fast food or other unhealthy, quick meals. :-(

Exactly. You are overworked, you really work a lot! Then you come home, you cannot even move to the couch let alone prepare food. And what are your options? Either to order something or buy food on your way home. I'm obviously not from the US and never been; where do people buy higher quality food? In same supermarkets or they have to go someplace else?

Corporations are working against you and government is doing nothing to regulate quality of food. To them if it's eatable then it's good. And then you get sick and spend gazillion dollars for health care.

It's always been expensive. I remember when i was really young the only way to guarantee your friends from class will come to your b day party is to celebrate it in McDonald's ^^

  • In case you needed another reminder that these kids, most of whom never finished school, all have the collective IQ of a sloth.

Ahh yes, McDonald's, the "national food" of white people, because as everyone knows all Americans are white and fast food is all we eat.

    :meme-listening:

Hey, sloths are cute, at least! But yeah, I just remembered that thread about how all of the Hearts2Hearts members except 1 dropped out of middle school! I don't think that makes them or any idol automatically stupid, and I'm sure they have tutors or something... but still!

  • Junhan has posted an apology.

Translation provided by Twitter (so take it with a grain of salt):

Hello. This is Junhan from Xdinary Heroes.
First, I sincerely apologize for causing great hurt and discomfort to many people with my careless remarks.
I realize that the content I mentioned contained biased views, and I deeply reflect on this. I bow my head in apology once again to those who were hurt and to everyone who felt discomfort due to my lack of historical and social awareness and sensitivity. Moving forward, I will strive to continuously learn and grow to act based on accurate knowledge.
Furthermore, I will take this incident as an opportunity to be more cautious and responsible in my words and actions. Once again, I sincerely apologize.

you can't tell if a race has increased metabolism based on cuisine alone

you need to set a baseline with the eating habits of both races

  • No way people actually think this when the national food is mcdonalds

Reading this as an european :meme-disappointed:

National food? lol my city doesn't even have a mcdonalds it's so expensive here you better off just go to a regular restaurant

  • I'm sorry but how are we not focused on him saying stem cell research (using embryonic cells that haven't decided to be a particular kind of cell to replace damaged cells) is the same as eugenics (selective breeding in humans to breed in or out certain traits), thats its already going on and those who don't have an ethical issue with it should do it?????

Also saying the reason black people are so good at music is because of extra ear cells????

And all these are meant to be 'pure and silly questions' from a guy in college trying to decide on his research project???????

What in gods name was in that college lecture if this is what he got out of it? Yeah he clearly has multiple screws loose but where is he getting this info????
