SM's new rookie idol group, Hearts2Hearts
Aside from the foreign member, all of them dropped out of middle school.

Since middle school is part of compulsory education, debuting them without even letting them graduate seems problematic...

Idols who don't drop out usually enroll in arts high schools that allow them to balance both their broadcasting activities and studies

    original post: here

    1. Wow I'm shocked... If they dropped out of middle school, that means they only finished elementary school... Aigo...

    2. It's not only this group. NewJeans' Haerin and Hyein also only graduated from elementary school + passed the qualification exam. Kids should at least go to middle schoolㅠㅜ There's a reason why it's compulsory

    3. It reminds me of NewJeans who only did elementary school

    4. Aigo... where are they gonna learn how to interact in society...

    5. SM is always doing this. They would cast a 3rd year high schooler in October and make them drop out right away. Their graduation would be right around the corner

    6. They should at least make the kids attend middle school, sigh

    7. Shouldn't they at least debut them after their compulsory education ends... They need to live life and debuting isn't everything. They should at least take care of their kids a bit

    8. This is so harmful...

    9. Hul why not make them go through mandatory education??

    10. Hul so they are all just elementary schooler graduates?

  • That's...interesting.

I thought most groups still let members enroll in performance arts schools like Hanlim and SOPA.

I think this is one consequence of debuting groups too young. They do end up rather naïve to the world.

This is also why a lot of people have a hard time finding a job if the whole "idol" thing doesn't work out. They have basically been groomed for the position from a young age, and they have had everything taken care of by their managers.

I don't think H2H will have the first issue since they have already started off well, and SM is going to push them to make sure they are relatively successful. But, yeah, I hope they do have people in their lives to keep them grounded. There is a lot you can learn by going to school and interacting with classmates, but it's not the only way as long as they get some kind of real education.

  • I hope they have some kind of home schooling or private tutoring because this is not good at all! School might fail at some things but lacking basic education as an idol loved by international fans will cause a lot of conflicts, it will close the doors for higher education (if they ever fail as an idol) and their conversations (outside of idol life) might be hollowed out and be without real content if they don't knw a lot about the world. We will see I guess. I hope this is some kind of misunderstanding.

  • There should be laws against this because in no way should people drop out of middle school to purse a career as an idol. They're in a SM group so should be fine, but it just takes 1 scandal and you're done. Just look at Hybe experiencing that with 2 of their groups. Luckily they were able to land on their feet but doing so at middle school is damaging. People forget about the scary part if they're forcing idols from smaller agencies to drop out of school which most likely stunts them for a long-period in life.

This is one of the major factors in why they shouldn't debut minors especially ones as young as many 5th gen groups. Most of them aren't ready for the big stage and need a couple more years in honing their craft.

  • School isn't just about the academics, either. It's where they can make friends, learn social skills, and discover things they enjoy through clubs and extracurriculars. Yes, this all can be done outside of school, but we know how restricted and overworked idols are... This is no way for a child to live...

That's true. I think it's important to learn these skills early because it can stunt them later in their adult life. Plus, it could be damaging if their only networking is with people from the industry. I remember always hearing idols say it's hard to find genuine people in the industry. It's most likely better for people in general to have some friends outside of the industry you work in, and missing out on school can stunt their networking skills
