ive has both yujin and wonyoung

aepsa kinda has all 4, but if i had to choose its karina and winter

IVE's Yujin is far more popular in Korea then anyone in Itzy or many other groups, the idea that it wouldn't survive without Wonyoung is quite silly to me. Likewise Sakura has loyal fans that have followed her for over a decade, it disappearing in six months without Chaewon seems highly unlikely. You are talking about top 5 groups any of which has multiple members that are independently popular, there are groups that survive for years without ever entering the top 20.

All can survive, but their popularity wouldn't be the same. All groups mentioned in op we have members that were essential to the group to hit big or to grow a big fb.

I agree than Chaewon is most popular member in Korea. But Sakura has the biggest fan base of them all. She has Decent Chinese fanbase, and ofc her huge Jp following. So I don’t think they will fell off without Chaewon.

Also An Yujin is literally 3rd most popular 4th gen idol in Korea only behind Karina and Wonyoung. So if WY leaves I’ve, there is Yujin who can keep the group afloat.

About itzy, I think they don’t depend on popularity anymore, since they fell off, so if even some member leaves I think they will be fine.

In case of aespa, well each member is hella popular, but for example if Karina leaves the group, aespa will take a huge hit in popularity. But they will survive ofc. Cuz each one of their fans have crazy buying power. And as you said they go viral all the time(Ningning and Giselle lately)

Itzy was kinda fucked before it started. Sure, it had some popularity for a couple of years, but come the around... 2020/'21, it faded (despite the high sales). If Somi was a part of it, I think it would've stayed a contender to be one of the top 4th Gen. GGs.

Then ITZY didn't survive, there was definitely a point in time when NewJeans, IVE, aespa, Le Sserafim and (G)I-DLE were all concurrently above them. And then miraculously resurrected by NewJeans disappearing as an active 4th gen group above them, while nothing changed about ITZY itself.

You need more than one popular member to avoid a 4minute/Miss A situation. GP usually dont give good support to groups where they cannot identify most of the members

Lesserafim - Chaewon, Sakura, Kazuha (certain extent). Eunchae is gaining momentum too

IVE - Anhyeongz

Aespa - Karina, Winter

Babymonster - Ahyeon, Asa (kr+jp), Chiquita (mainly outside KR)

Newjeans - Haerin, Minji

GIDLE - Yuqi, miyeon (kr), soyeon (known for talent)

BP - needless to say, basically all 4 are popular enough

I think it’s generally true, but there have been exceptions. Best one I can think of is GFriend who were the top girl group in early 3rd gen despite not having any really popular members.
