Don’t forget BIGBANG literally had whole song called monster, even tho conceptually it was pretty novel at the time. And the term ‘monster rookie’ was first coined with ikon’s debut back in 2015 if I’m not mistaken

Winner and ikon were pretty much successful in korea… until that se**gri scandal happened and killed the company’s reputation including the boygroups

The term "Monster Rookie" was used for a long time in Korea. Way before Kpop groups, I think. They used it for soloists as well. I know, because when Mamamoo debuted, they called one of the female singer on "Immortal Songs 2" a monster rookie of 2014, then in 2015, they said that about MMM.
They were more like a hit or miss, they got other songs that charted high besides from Love Scenario. But of course, there were songs that didn’t chart.
