I agree about Touchdown being a 3/10... But 24/7 too???
I agree about Touchdown being a 3/10... But 24/7 too???
The key to some good early Twice songs is their catchiness and 24/7 doesnt have that, especially cimpared to some of the other twicetagram songs
My thread is dead lol
I liked it
True lol. It is just worse version of Do What We Like. I am being too generous by giving it 4/10
Still better than M&M though XD
1 to 10? Omg tasteless
I fell asleep when listening to that song (boring imo), I think I need to watch the stage.
Wow u really hate Page 2
The only song I consider putting higher is Touchdown, just because I hear this song a lot on the background when consuming Twice contents
Great list ryu I'm slightly disappointed by touchdown's placement tho

I can see some people really like that song, it sounds like a cheerleading song
This ain't it.
We have near opposite taste.
This thread is really inspiring me to give 1 to 10 a listen...
The best TWICE stage ever.
Be as One and Someone Like Me 4 is a shocker, feel like we've discussed the latter at some point though.
Outliers for me on this would definitely be Cheer Up (one of my least favourite title tracks), Swing (a shocker), Trick It (I hate the repetitive "trick it" and how it sounds), I rate where you put Feel Special (incredibly overrated by the fandom), Polish at 5/10 is a shambles (one of their best Japanese songs in years) and that you gave respect to Sunset unlike the OP, it's a massive summer tune.
Man I really need a good ballad from Twice as a b-side - it has been so long. Looking through their discography here reminds me how much I rate Signal as a mini.

Yeah, Someone Like Me is a song I can't listen to objectively because I heard and liked the Hailee Steinfeld song first.
Cheer Up: It did take me years to warm up to it. I think it was hearing it instrumentally that made it click. The way BEP wrote the vocals for both this song and TT is so weird and initially distracting. Like almost every line has a different melody so there's no repetition to grab onto.
Feel Special: My evergreen take is that it is JYP raiding BEP's fridge for Likey leftovers. I know the song sounds different, but it's built of the exact same ingredients (almost the same arpeggio, the exact same horn sample I think). But I do enjoy Feel Special when I listen to it, but with Likey I'm mainly waiting for the insanely good rap section.
Polish: Maybe I was too harsh on it, but the piano makes me think of vaudeville or show tunes or JYP's solo music career.
Sunset: Funnily enough I initially put this at 10 before putting it back down. I think it's just a little bit too static and vibey for its own good, only really kicking into a different gear for that sublime ending. It needs a better bridge or something like that.
I mean the bridge (as in, the instrumental break) and final chorus is what makes me put After Moon in the same tier. Now that's a great, underrated Twice ballad. Composers put some actual thought into it. Like how harmonies only come in during the "you and I" bit. Musical storytelling!
Ballads:
I've been saying since before More & More that I want Twice's next TITLE track to be a musically adventurous ballad.
But ballads are something that, imo, very few pop artists can successfully get right, and I think Twice fall into the trap of most of the ones that don't: They seem rote, perfunctory, they're totally uncreative and have zero effort put into the instrumentation. It's just piano and strings, the same vocal arrangements, it's so fucking boring.
I only started listening to pop music seriously in, like, 2006, and almost every pop album, I'd be enjoying it, but then the dreaded interchangeable ballads would come and I'd be like, nope.
The only pop group I think that consistently put out great ballads was the Sugababes. From the beginning, to the middle, to the end, to the new beginning, they always, always delivered their best music in that form. But that's, I think, partly because of their identity of being an "urban" pop group rather than a "bubblegum" pop group, and so a lot of their ballads retain a hip-hop influence in some fashion. And, like, hip-hop is a foundational aspect of the k-pop sound, so I don't get why so many k-pop groups just ditch that when doing their ballads. I know you like Groove Overdose and I haven't heard much of them, but they seem to be one of the ones that actually do marry hip-hop and the ballad form successfully, and it's such an addictive sound when it's done right (like BTS/Suga's song First Love, for example).
I'm not asking for something wild or experimental when it comes to the music, either. My absolute favourite song from last year was... Funnily enough, it was Hailee Steinfeld's Wrong Direction.
So I'm not saying Twice should record a hip-hop ballads, or, lol, a hip-hop anything, but just.. Anything that doesn't sound like it could be from a fucking Britney Spears album in 2000.
But with ALL that said, I think Twice's nature of a group with 9 members with varying vocal styles and, lets be honest, quality, will always disadvantage them when it comes to ballads. This is another one of the disillusioning things about k-pop. Not everybody has to sing in every song. That's a stupid rule. A good Twice album would have different members song on different members and not call them "subunits" or anything stupid like that. Just the right voices for the right melodies.
The disrespect for legendary song
But the analogy lol
Justice for the disrespect y'all heap on the true legendary song, SWING.
What I love about Swing is that it, well, swings between two different "things", with the line "just friends" being the pivot point. Right between those two words, MID-LINE, you get an extreme melodic interval in the vocals, with the vocals that follow being so high pitched that only dogs can hear them. That interval is addictive istg.
But also the music switches from some kind of Hollywood Records pop/rock kinda thing to this really clean, minimalist beat with no beat emphasis and empty bars for the vocals leaving space for that beat.
I honestly don't know what people could dislike about it, except for the child-like background vocals (understandable) or the wonky English pronunciation (a bad opinion, go sit in the corner).
