K-POP Hot Takes

  • most kpop groups nowadays lack character and identity (sonically and visually) which I guess is normal bc the industry is very saturated.

some groups should release music less often and spend more time crafting good bodies of work (albums), rather than just churning out filler music 3 times a year. one comeback a year is enough for established groups. for rookies it's different.

iz*one discography is terrible apart from some title tracks. which is interesting because the members' projects after the group disbanded (both new groups and solos) are really good, so them disbanding was the best thing that ever happened in kpop lol

ikon - love scenario, is an awful overrated shite song. but ikon have other songs that are very good

monsta x and got7 all have better music than bts

riize's vocals are subpar especially compared to other sm groups

    j-hope sings better than jimin

  • It's embarrassing to stop an era bc you suck at singing

Kpop fans are becoming worst with social media spreading more and more

Idols nowadays (yeah, not all) lack the passion to be idols and seeing them debut with almost 0 talent and 0 improvement through the years is tiring

No group or company gives up on SK market unless they target ww like Vcha/Katseye, they just say so when their groups start flopping in SK or are nugus there

Actually that's it for now, if I remember something more I'll cb here to type

  • 1. Companies shouldn’t debut a group if half the members can’t sing or don’t have at least a decent vocal tone. It honestly feels like a scam. Sure, being pretty and coming from a big company can take them far, but once the group’s done, their “singing” careers are over. They’ll just end up doing some modeling gigs.

    2. Criticizing idols who lack talent should be normal. Fans need to stop hyping them up because it just makes them complacent. Of course, this doesn’t mean bullying them, but saying someone can’t sing isn’t hate.

    3. Cha Eunwoo can barely act tho he showed some improvement at least, and he’s not much of a singer either. His good looks are the only thing keeping him afloat.

    4. Kpop loves to use deep concepts like women’s empowerment or mental health awareness for example, we all know it’s all just for show yet fans took it as something 'real' and makes the group 'different'. These idols don’t practice what they preach, and for me it just comes off as hypocritical.

    5. Blackpink’s vocals are average at best, but they’re smart about playing to their strengths and picking a song that suits them.

    6. Bts vocal line used to be my favourite in entire of kpop. They have a great range of vocalists with all have unique tones, but with time, aside from Jungkook, the others' development has declined too much.

    7. Korean pop artists honestly have some of the weakest vocals compared to other countries, especially in Asia. When you look at places like Southeast Asia, China, or Japan, even their best singers would just be considered average. In my country, someone who sings live well but has a slightly shaky voice would get mocked, but in Kpop, they’d get praised like it's out of the world performance. The bar is seriously low

:nct6: I was expecting to disagree on at least one of these but nope, these are pretty dang on point for BG opinions and should not be hot takes :taeyong-eating:

    Micah Forever

    Benny's Smoll Bean

  • 1 and 2 agree

3 agree, but his looks are tooooo good so I'll excuse him :shyr:

4 unfortunately agree, it's more like "do what we say, but don't do what we do"...

5... Rosé lives from this era alone makes her a great vocalist, Jennie is good but like 7.5/10, Jisoo like a 6/10 and Lisa the real average... But agree with they knowing what their strengths are which is the smart move

6 they were never strong vocally, but it indeed became worse and jk is a great vocalist imo

7 agree and it's bc kpop companies and fans prefer pretty faces over good vocals

Btw I hope you don't take me quoting you as something bad :sadr: I just liked your takes

i used to really like taehyung's voice but i don't think they ever bothered to improve their vocals except jk

there was even a point where i thought he had better potential than jk as a vocalist

good color and a pretty wide vocal range

he probably wasn't interested though and focused on other things

  • I hate that a lot of girl group members being transformed into porcelain dolls from whitening.

I hate reading about a lot of female idols going on forced diets from labels and sometimes the idols doing it themselves because they were probably brainwashed in the early years.

"You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't bout how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward." ~ Rocky Balboa

  • 1. Whitewashing is getting ridiculous in kpop day by day…. It doesn’t even look good anymore

    2. Most stage outfits at Music Shows are not good and looks like a teenage girl from middle school cut some fabrics and glued them together

    3. Hybe should be banned from using autotune and producing 2min TikTok music

    4. 5th gen gg music(there is an exception) is the worst music produced in kpop history

    5. SM’s obsession with lypsinging is very frustrating and I can’t enjoy most sm acts performances because of it

    6. Most kpop groups should be banned from rapping. Rapping in most of the groups is really horrendous

    7. Monotonous repetitive choruses and anti drops are already overused and mediocre at best.

    8. Most of 4th gen and 5th gen idols should get serious vocal training because even their tones became unbearable even in studio versions of the songs

    9. Stray Kids should work with some professional external music producers cuz 3Racha ran out of ideas and I didn’t hear any good song produced by them this year(they should honestly take a break)

Same thing with Gidle and Soyeon

    10. 2nd gen music is the best and timeless(if you only judge by BigBang’s music then it is your fault)

    11. This year kpop music was the worst I have experienced in last 5-6 years

  • If all groups performed live with 0 backtracks like lsfm did, fans will finally have some realistic expectations of their faves vocal skills.

Kpop fans are unique in a sense that they accept and love subpar from their own faves but expect their non-faves to go beyond.

The reason a lot of 2nd gen were great performers is because they sang live. Even though they had shit music.
