MAMAMOO's Solar and Moonbyul renewed their contracts with RBW for 3 years!?

    Honestly, I'm disappointed, BUT I'm not surprised! I can't see them starting their own label till RBW owns MAMAMOO's trademark. My one and only problem with RBW is the lack of promoting. I'm sure other Moos feel the same way. I can't see that changing in the future, but I'm sure they have a good deal on their hands if they renewed their contracts.


    Sadly, if we want OT4 comebacks, they need RBW.

    Also, it's worth to mention the trademark for MAMAMOO will expire soon, too! In 2 years, basically! RBW can renew it for another 10 years, IF the girls let them do it! Maybe this is why they renewed their contracts. Let's be real, starting your own company is not easy, especially if you're not a mainstream artist or rich. After 10 years, RBW is the only company where they can do whatever they want. Other Moos mentioned, maybe there's a chance they can start their sub-label under RBW. That's also a good point.


    Now that Wheein left TheL1VE, who knows, maybe she's coming back. I wouldn't be surprised, to be honest.


    Anyway, tell me what you think, and here's a LONG thread about the trademark and how they can get the rights from RBW if they want to. It's not that easy, btw!

    Agreed but I'm actually not disappointed. Yeah they don't pump money into promo but...overall they seem to be far better than most of the industry, especially right now.


    Realistically, they are on their third contract now, still the main source of idol income for the company which means the renewal terms will be great for them, each is currently on tour, have released music as they like, control their own content, youtube channels and tv show appearances. We haven't heard anything about mistreatment, money issues, or them wanting to do something the company won't let them do, cancelling CB's or overworking them. RBW is literally their playground. In contrast, we've seen how hard it is for idol run companies (Hyolyn using all her money to pay employees, Ravi (nuff said), Beakhyun's became a subsidiary of a BPM, same with Zico's, who knows what happened to Henry's and Kang Daniel is currently in court about his company). Think the only ones that went well are JYP, Jay Park etc, all of whom severely limited their solo work to build a company and retreated to focus on pushing other idols.


    I think we've also seen from what happened with Chungha's first company and what's currently going on with Hwasa how much other companies can delay, cancel or push stuff back. Seeing moonsun being able to do as they like, even if they aren't getting as much promotion to the GP as before, I get why they are happy enough to stay. I'd have never thought RBW would have them touring at the same time, but here we are and they are both doing really well.


    Can't remember how long Hwasa's contract is, but I don't think she'll stay at P Nation, I don't think anyone's ever renewed with them, so yeah just waiting to hear news on Wheein.

    I think both Solar and Moonbyul are enjoying freedom which RBW gives them. They can be on music related tv shows and programs also appear in variety shows, have own youtube and making lots of decisions. Solar plays in musicals, Moonbyul did busking recently. That's nice.


    RBW might not be a major label but still at least they give girls budget for mv's

    No official news yet. Some (myself included) have assumed that they've quietly renewed since they both have schedules lined up for later in the year and everything seems to be continuing as usual.

    This is the least surprising news of the year. Solar basically is already treated like an executive at RBW, and Moonbyul has been able to do pretty much everything she has set her mind to do while under RBW.


    Plus I always assumed that if one renewed then the other would as well because MoonSun

    Yeah, I agree. Hwasa signed with PSY last year, I think. Usually, contracts are for 2 or 3 years. For a smaller company like PNation, I think it has to be 3 years. Wheein signed with TL for 3 years as well.


    Maybe Wheein will sign with PN for 3 years and when everyone's contract is ending they can do a sub-label under RBW.

    Someone said on Twitter, I think that Solar is basically the BoA at RBW, and I kinda agree with that, but I can't see Kim Jin-woo giving her a real CEO title.     Pretty much, yeah. I just feel bad, because I can't understand why RBW doesn't promote them better. But that's the only problem with them, tbh. The girls working with the biggest Korean songwriter for 10 years, so the quality is always there. We, fans, only see the social media and stuff, but looks like the girls don't feel the same way, so the company might be not as bad as we think, or it's enough for them.


    To be honest, they did say in the Where are We Now documentary that they don't like the big fuss around them and too many people. They want the old days back, and for that RBW is the best.

    I'd rather them sticking to RBW than moving out. They have seniority there and alot of staffs-well connected to them. RBW didn't promote them well, so nothing has changed there. However as other said, the freedom they enjoyed in RBW might not be matched well in other company.


    Anyhow, they might be like BoA or Kangta of SM, becoming BOD or Executives for RBW~

    Wheein as a dance and vocal coach/painter, probably, and Hwasa I'm sure would want to be a Variety show host. She already did that successfully with Hwasa Show.


    If they can have a sub-label under RBW or at least 80% ownership of the copyrights, and control, I can see Wheein coming back. I mean, it's not like there's a lot of better options anyway. Also, it's easy to tell they're struggling without each other. I read so many comments from them about how much they miss each other.


    After this news, I can only see Wheein go to PSY or RBW.
