When you see a lot of love coming by, but it's actually directed at other members 1 out of 10 times it might take a toll on some people psychologically. Especially if they are already predisposed to having low self-esteem and thoughts relating to why they have to work so hard to get a little recognition when another member gets a lot for less work. I know some people will say that's not possible to feel that way, but it's like any other work. You see another employee getting all the praises and perks when you worked as hard, if not harder than then, would rub you the wrong away. I won't name names but I kind of notice those type of members usually doing the more extensive ps, get into some sort of trouble or just leave celebrity life even if they have a decent amount of fans.
Least popular members from most popular groups probably have it tough

Pleaseee they are getting that money and less stalkers, I wouldn't complain

(G)I-DLE's Soyeon is unusual in that she's the least popular member while being the most successful and accomplished.
Even when she isn't fans' bias, they still respect her a lot because they know she's a huge reason for the group's success. She rightfully gets her flowers.

It really depends tho.
First of all how big the Group is in terms of success.
Secondly how many members they have.
If you’re a member of a Group who sees average success and you’re the least popular member, it’s gonna be tough. Especially if you also have a lot of members. Not only is the chance of going solo nearly nonexistent, but you might not even earn enough to go independent when the contract ends. You’re completely dependent on the companies financial support, while the more popular members start solo careers that can keep them over water.
So the downside of it really shows once the Group becomes inactive or disbands.
That’s not the same with Top Tier Groups. Even the least popular member might still have a decent solo career or still earns enough to care less about getting the least attention.
It’s the worse when the whole Group is kinda getting the least attention except from one Member…if that member leaves, the Group is screwed ! This would mentally stress me a lot?

I feel it has gotten a lot better over the years, as fans have collectively started to care when a member is noticeably less popular than the others. In some instances, they really pitched in to show the member love, ironically making that member one of the more popular members or at least on par with the others.
-
if group is most popular
then they made tons of money
I wouldn't care being least popular, at least people wouldn't care if I date hahaha
-
Your theory doesn't apply to the "MOST Popular group", yes I'm talking about BP and Bangtan.
Even in this case, the less popular get the attention that the most popular member of B-list Group could crave.

If you ask most idols, they would most likely prefer to be the most popular member from a lesser known group, than the least popular member in a popular group.
At least they have individual schedules and actual work rather than just sitting at home and dorms while the actual popular members are promoting everywhere on TV. And this also leads to work after the group disbands or have an infinite hiatus.
Just look at idols like Uee, Nana, Sejeong, Yeonwoo, Eunwoo or April Naeun before her scandal. They have all established their careers one way or another and often still stay in the public's spotlight, meanwhile for other least popular members in a popular group, they may promote on TV once in a while, but a lot of times don't do much at all and still gets no buzz.

Honestly using Sejeong is a cop out, she was one of the most popular members in a hugely successful group before she was in gugudan and its the IOI fame that got her the acting gigs and kept her relevant whilst gugudan flopped. From the get go people said she was being made to hard carry the group and if her company hadn't allowed her to take on work outside the group I don't think she'd have found as much success as she has. OMG and April are far more realistic and representative.
I'd also say Moonbyul is not the least popular in Mamamoo, maybe amoungst the general public but she has the biggest solo fanbase, a better example would be Solar or Wheein.
But even going with your example for the public recognition thing, looking at the success of Arin and whoever from April (is it Naeun??), have they made more money and gotten better opportunities than Wendy/Yeri and Moonbyul? I'd argue no. Least popular in popular groups means they got paid out for major joint ad deals, major concerts and tv show appearances that may help them secure other roles. Even the group name brings them extra opportunities and buzz. Moonbyul and Wendy both have had very successful radio shows, solo's that sold well, and get invited to TV shows based on the power of the group brand name. Wendy got cast in a musical and moonbyul has done multiple solo tours, all of this is due to the group brand name power giving them a leg up when starting their solo careers. As for Arin and Naeun(?), they may get opportunities, but its hard to sustain that buzz without impressive works behind you, your literally building a career from scratch and as we've seen, plenty of less idols from less famous groups go viral for some reason or another, but very few manage to make a career of it or have a company who is able to jump on it. Arin is the most popular in OMG but her buzz has gone down alot since WM(?) don't know how to sustain it and all she seems to have done is ad deals and dip into acting without much success(?). Thinking of the most popular/viral members of smaller groups, I can't really think of any who managed to make a big career with that background.

It depends on the group.
The most popular groups such as SNSD and Blackpink: there's no issue being the least popular member since all members are hugely popular and can survive on their own.
If you mean the tier below that, which contains a bunch of very popular groups, then possibly. Like someone above me said, I'd probably rather be Sejeong than just about anyone from Red Velvet that I can think of from the top of my head.

IOI fame got her a couple acting roles early in her career but it certainly didn't keep her relevant in the long run. I wouldn't put 2017-2019 Sejeong over any RV/MMM member but rn it's def Sejeong > every 3rd gen female idol that's not a BP/Twice member. It was Busted that kept Sejeong from falling off the face of the earth when both her acting career and music career wasn't doing well. And later she had Uncanny Counter and Business Proposal which established her as one of the top idol actresses.

Don't know much about Mamamoo so I will take your word for it.
Why are you acting like OMG is some nugu group lmao. They had three huge hits during Covid cuz of which they are still invited to festivals and are known amongst Kpop fans. Arin was in one of the biggest dramas of 2022 and her buzz hasn't gone down. Currently she is def more popular than Wendy/Yeri and Moonbyul. All the opportunities that RV members have is largely due to the fact they are SM idols not because they are a part of some mega popular group.
If we are talking about money only yeah MMM and RV members have made more but if the question is who is more popular currently and will do better in long run? Arin and Sejeong win easily. If the scandal didn't happen, Naeun would have done better too. Well she is making her comeback soon so we will see how that goes.
