The story of Yeri joining Red Velvet

I'm guessing everyone else in Yeri's proposed group got the axe, because there was no way she was training to be in Aespa.

So looks like all those SM rookies that got spotlighted in those years and all those trainee faces that showed up in RV's Happiness MV, most of them were actually meant for this new girl group (White Fox?), just wow

it's always interesting to see idols talk about their trainee days and all the friends and people they met along the way...

to me that's what ultimately differs a kpop idol to others that those trainee days are some of the toughest and grueling events in their lives and only those who have gone through it and lucky enough to debut truly understands what it means...

I would have been curious to see Yeri as a group's center but ultimately, I am glad that she is in Red Velvet.

This is essentially what I think. They didn't deem Yeri "debut ready" when Happiness came out, but after a while they wanted something to add hype to RV and liked Yeri enough to add her. (Also agree that they wanted her to debut, but she would've been 'too old' for any potential new girl group after RV.)

after nj debuted, there was a theory that this white fox gg should have had a new jeans like concept with mhj in charge but sm scrapped it and decided to focus on nct project instead... that's why mhj left and all those famous rookies too

They actually already performed once as a group during a smtown performance with Yeri as the center and probably leader of the group

and i have no idea where i heard or read it there was a lot of rumors and different theories about this supposed new gg

i dont remember sm ever confirming any line ups or details i only know there was a lot of speculation because they promoted those rookies a lot

I read somewhere there was a group in between RV and Aespa but they weren't satisfied with the overall talent of the group. Take with a grain of salt of course.

I agree it was probably going to be a Yeri, Lami, Koeun etc. Brighter, girlier concept.

Maybe they switched it up once Karina and Winter came on board. Glad we got the Aespa version of Ningning for sure.

Perhaps that concept will be the basis of their upcoming group.

Ningning and Yiyang were probably added to the new GG lineup

And it was probably scrapped because the girlgroup was going for a pure innocent comeback

That makes actually sense. The other SM Rookies were getting too much exposure with their own show and performances, even at SM TOWN, for not being something planned with them.

The male SM Rookies of those years ended up in NCT, so it was always weird that nothing happened with the female SM Rookies back then.

I think the idea was indeed to launch a cute group (maybe even SNSD style group?) next to Red Velvet, shortly after. But TWICE got the cute market cornered, and signs on the wall pointed to girl crush becoming the main theme, so they cancelled the plans for the new group.

Not sure if that's also 1 of the reasons MHJ left. But I don't think it's much of a stretch to suspect that she left because she couldn't realise some of her creative ideas and initiatives at SM.
