Are there still delulu people who think companies and idols don't care about chart, sales and being #1?

of course they care hell I'm pretty sure some of the exec bonuses are tied to not only the stock but by how much albums each group sells or how high they chart or how many circle points they accumulate etc etc

hell even for the idols themselves - I've always said being an idol is like the ultimate commission based gig. You get paid by how much you sell or chart or tour

Name dropping BP bc you hate them is so funny when their numbers were always high and consistent like even in their last cb. BP never dropped from the top and their solo works proves it even more. This wasn't bc of "mediaplay" that antis love to claim, it was thanks to their fandom growing and supporting the girls in all eras.

BIG4 agencies cares more than anyone else, because they could lose more than a smaller agency. Idols? I don't think they care that much. I mean, sure they are happy if they can chart on TOP100 or other streaming platforms, especially if they're in the TOP10, but if they're not, I'm pretty sure they won't cry about it like their fans.😅

Real artists care about the music, not charts. No one can be in the TOP10 or even TOP100 forever so care about it too much, makes no sense.

If the fandom cares so much, imagine the companies and to some extent, the idol themselves

Real artists care about the music, not charts. No one can be in the TOP10 or even TOP100 forever so care about it too much, makes no sense.

You don't have to chart in TOP10 or even TOP100 to be recognized. I mean, there are millions of musicians out there, and most of them are like ghosts. The media and people only talking about mainstream, this is how the entertainment industry works. Not just the music industry.

Lesser known artists have like 1% chance to be recognized in a mainstream media.

I worked with so many singers and bands, and they have like 100-1000 fans, but they're still making music, because they love it. Some of them have another job, because as a musician they couldn't survive.

I think you are romanticizing away too much what is being an artist in the K-pop/Korean Entertainment Industry, what is the focus of Dreamer's post.

A lot of these idols go into literal explorative contracts. And even the ones who don't that much, they don't only record and release music on plataforms once in a blue moon and perform here and there when there's time as a side-job to fill the passion. A lot of them dedicate their whole youth to it and live for it in the first years of their contract, not all of them have opportunities to gain money doing anything else.

Imagine working, working, working and don't feel like you are being rewarded for it. In the end, no matter how much you love what you do, If you dedicate your life to it, you will want to be rewarded properly to the amount of effort you put into it and, sadly, as entertainers, the way is If they are being recognized.

I don't understand what is so wrong with wanting to be in the Top 10 or the Top 100, or selling a lot of albums, or doing big tours etc, honestly. As long as they don't wish or promote someone else's downfall and know how to balance the ambition healthly, I see It actually as a good thing.

I'm sure they would like if something they love (aka music) could also provide them livelihood and they wouldn't have to do other things just to survive. It would mean more people love their music which would reflect through charts, sales or even concerts.

People are super delulu to think that Companies don't care about being on the charts! ALL they care about is being on the chart. I mean, Obviously, Kpop singers put all their effort to be on the chart. why would company not care about it. lol. It matters man, Really matters!

Real artists care about the music, not charts. No one can be in the TOP10 or even TOP100 forever so care about it too much, makes no sense.

Smaller agencies care just as much as they are on a far tighter rope.

Big companies can afford flops as long as they can still make a group profitable from fandoms. Small companies tend to drop groups fast or straight up not even pay them of they don't perform well as they simply can't afford to have unsuccessful groups relative to their expectations.

This is also one of the reason we tend to see smaller agencies being wrapped up in chart manipulation cases more often.

Also this is Kpop, it's not really for real artistic music for the sake of it. All of it's is commercial pop with a primary reason of release to generate income. All of it, period.

I don't romanticize anything. I was talking about the whole entertainment industry, not just music and Kpop Idols. Most Kpop Idols only want to debut to use the fame as a stepping stone anyway.

If you feel your work is not awarded, you don't love what you're doing. This may sound harsh, but it's still true. Also, being awarded for something can mean different things for everyone. For some, it's about money, fame or charting. For some, it's the fact that they can release their art, even if no one will care about it.

I wrote songs for many singers, can you guess how many people know my name? Only the people I worked with, probably. If you really love something, you don't care about anything else.

Of course, everyone would love it, but most artists can't do that. That's the sad reality. Not everyone can be successful.

The fact that so many people think like you is really sad. Just because it's Kpop, doesn't mean it's not art or they don't want to create meaningful music.

Companies may think this way, but trust me, real musicians (even in Kpop) not! At least the ones who don't use Kpop Idol life as a steppingstone for another career.

Nah, you specifically said "real artists care about the music, not charts" and I'm disagreeing about it from the start.

Caring not necessarily means you won't bother trying afraid of not being rewarded or you will stop being passionate as soon as your expectations aren't reached, but the simple feeling of wanting and having it as an ambition is already caring. And I don't think anyone will be less artist because of it. Especially when a lot of them are being literally exploited and depend on it.

Well, yes, a real artist only cares about the art they're creating. What's wrong with that sentence? It doesn't mean they can't be happy if they become successful, but if they only want to become an artist, so they can be famous, they're not real artists, simple as that! That's all I'm saying.

It's like when people want to become a doctor to earn a lot of money, not to help people. We can say this about any other profession. There's a huge difference between doing something solely for the fame and wanting to reach a certain level with your art. There are a LOT of people who only doing things so they can be famous. I'm only talking about those people when I say, they're not real artists.

Everyone want to be recognized, myself included, not just artists, and it feels bad when it's not happening, but real artists never give up.

Stocks are on the line, if they don't care about rivalry, they aren't a true businessman.
