...3rd times a charm?

The discrepancy has got to be one of the (if not the?) biggest there's been in kpop.
There's others that have more international fans compared to SK recognition, but not top groups really. Stray Kids' case seems quite rare. Though they are showing growth in SK and have built a fanbase (they're selling out Gocheok Sky Dome after all), you'd think that they'd do better there than what they do by now.

And what about TxT?
TXT charts pretty well though, didn't sugar rush ride chart in the top 5?
Better example would be Ateez, nugu in SK yet constantly selling venues elsewhere
edit - yep found it all 5 songs from that album were in the melon top 5, (SRR was number 3) and they all debuted inside the daily chart with SRR hitting 19.

isnt skz turning 6 this year? didnt bts start getting more noticed with dope?
if you're going to get more notoriety/popularity domestically because you're being successful internationally and you don't have songs that make up that gap then you have to have the full SK flag waiving SK pride parade and that's not going to happen with a group that has two Australians that probably gave up their SK nationality so they wouldn't have to serve and an alleged bully.

Quite a number of boy groups live like this though. But I guess you can say stray kids are the most severe. They need more versatility in their sound. But I don't think their fans want that.

They have plenty of slower songs in their albums so it isn't that they aren't making content for the masses but it's their harder sounds that blows up.
I think they've just accepted that foreign acceptance is going to make them a known entity in SK so they're sticking to that. They also don't seem interested in going full English either which means they're sticking to their sound regardless of which market they tackle.

finally a logical and non-passive aggressive answer from a non stay (donno if you are a stay tho)
