Depends how we compare. Didn't Blackpink already beat 24 hour YT records once they were less than year old group with As If it is Your Last? At 1.5 year mark they released D4 which end up becoming the most viewed kpop group song in history. It is pretty hard to compare, because Spotify have got more relevance over years, but if we compare album sales we could even say NMIXX is bigger than Blackpink during first two years.

It depends on nothing. BlackPink didn't even make the year end Gaon digital chart in 2016. We've covered this before. Even if you want to rely on the lazy "but the eras are different!!!" argument, NewJeans dominated their competition way, way more than BlackPink did in the first 1.5 years.
BlackPink debuted in August 2016. D4 released in June 2018.
That isn't 1.5 years...

But it's funny when people literally hope for NJ's downfall. It's not going to happen.
Girl groups of that tier don't just fall off. Like ever.
NJ is clearly the S.E.S., SNSD, Twice and BP of this generation. They will be around for a long time.

People won't vote because they are afraid to be judged.
But because they want to see the result, they are forced to vote.

It is not about being judged but not having opinion to the subject. Not everybody follow which group have bigger numbers than others and try to compare it to completely different era, but may still be curious about the topic. I don't care at all if somebody wanna judge me. Judge all you want, if that bring you some kind of satisfaction.

Whilst Blackpink was successful at debut and released 3 hits in 1.5 years in whistle, PWF and AIIYL, they are way more known for their longetivity and all of their peak performances (korea in 2018 and 2020), (and internationally whichever is their most recent comeback) are when they are no longer rookies so this is a weird comparison.
Feels like this would've been a closer comparison had it been against Twice or IVE

It's only unfair in the sense that no group's first 1.5 years can hold a candle to what NewJeans have already done.
This logic is the definition of a slippery slope, my friend. Does NewJeans benefit from the growth of K-Pop in the 3rd generation? Absolutely. But the third generation benefitted greatly from the 2nd generation starting the Hallyu Wave that expanded the reach of K-Pop, and it was the 1st generation that got everything started.
If Big Bang didn't become arguably the biggest K-Pop group of their era, would YG have even survived and been able to debut 2NE1, the predecessors to BlackPink? See how much the slope slips?
The era argument holds no water, because NewJeans is so far beyond their peers, who are all competing in the same conditions as they are with nowhere near the same results.

I believe this also. BP has fans that are embedded and have been with them for a while. So many new groups are coming out now the young fans will just tend to hop on the popularity bandwagon and have different favorites yearly.

I'm glad we have a couple people in here to put everything in perspective about NewJeans.
They are clearly the beneficiaries of temporary fame. There are no indications whatsoever that they continue to grow their fandom exponentially. They'll have practically no fans by 2024.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to reply given this is another baity thread but I will say this blackpink's achievements and popularity came naturally and gradually , their biggest hit came in 2018, so 2 years after their debut it wasn't overnight.
it took time for their fanbase to grow and the general public to get more interest in them, which imo translate to longitivtiy, biggest impact and hence being the biggest gg and Korean representative overseas I prefer it that way,
