Meanwhile, there is also growing interest in the size of the amount for BLACKPINK's contract renewal. "Considering the contract amounts of Big Bang (YG, 1 billion won per person) and TWICE (JYP, 1.2 billion won per person), BLACKPINK's contract amount per person will be in the range of 1 billion to 1.5 billion won (T/N: 1.5 B = ~1.15M USD)," said Cha Yumi, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities. "Considering BLACKPINK's global recognition, it may exceed estimates, but the impact on the company's profitability is limited because the artist is an artist with ticket power."

There is also a concern that the revenue sharing ratio between the company and the artist. The company's share when the artists are rookies is usually more than 50%, but the artist's share is often more than 80% (20% for the company) after renewal. However, an industry insider said, "The overall pie is much larger even if the company's share is reduced upon re-signing, as the company does not make any profit for three or four years out of the seven years of rookie activities and then exponentially grows in profit. Renewing is also much more favorable in terms of stock price symbolizing that the group's revenue is preserved on the balance sheet."

    1. That's lower than I thought

    2. If the renewal is 1.5 billion and that the artist keeps 80% afterwards, they are getting paid a lot

    3. Knowing this, it would be way more profitable for the company not to renew

    4. That's it?

    5. Isn't this why it's so hard for them to renew with Lisa?

    6. I was wondering if 1.5 billion wasn't too little but if the profit sharing is 80%, thenㅋㅋㅋ That's such a good condition

    7. Maybe because I'm into football these days, these numbers seem tiny

    8. Isn't the profit sharing percentage way more important..?

    9. I kinda feel like they should be putting more in the down payment...

    10. It's not too little. There's also the profit sharing

  • Lol only BTS can match this 'salary' or income in a single year in Kpop of we consider the revenue Kpop idols made their company in a single year...

Even top western stars barely make this much money in a year. Adele for example fortune only totaled at 190M USD (after tax) in 2021. As this was revealed by the court proceedings for her divorce https://www.google.com/amp/s/w…ecki-spousal-support.html

So these staggering numbers are just not for everyone... there's just too much more money on sport than music.

  • The profit share makes sense...even if YG make little money it's a business about pumping stock prices, not turning profits. For the last few years YG has barely made profit anyway.

Without BP and just flops like Treasure and Somi YG are a mid to low level company.

  • Complete bullshit.

They've pulled these numbers out of their asses.

Also BIGBANG's contract was the first of its kind in the industry and was MUCH MUCH more than ₩1 billion.

BIGBANG renewed 3 times with YG.

BLACKPINK is much more, which is why they renewed because no one in Kpop will match it (SM because they're cheapskates) or Hybe (who can't afford it because they have too much debt and lost BIG TIME on their SM investment).

    YG Family

Imo, leaving and pushing for a solo career and coming back as a group at leisure is healthier and better. They get to be bosses, do what they want and also do other businesses that don't interfere with their company contracts. Let's be real, that's what they've been doing. BP don't promote much as a group and have had only 2 tours in 7 years. They can do much better if they plan their own schedules. YG will dungeon them again because it's their style. Older acts have proven that. Even Big Bang didn't survive the dungeon.

Re-signing = stress. Lee Hyori and Dara proved it. And eventually, Big Bang too. Look at Taeyeon, she's still struggling with an incompetent label. Success doesn't guarantee anything in Kpop.

Now, I only want idols to have freedom and free will and to fly on their own terms.
