The name of IU struck fear on all KPop fans.
The Strange Creature, the former owner of Edam Entertainment, KPop's Least Useful Singer and KPop's Great Anachronism , among other names, defeated various KPop acts you could name. Other than Laboum, which disbanded, the only act who defeated IU in a regular basis was Shinee.
Even BTS had a hard time dealing with the Strange Creature.
However, I watched the meeting of NJ and IU three times, and it seems IU has realized that she can't beat the 4th generation.
The program, which would have been agreed upon before, showed NJ singing 5 of their new songs and then Celebrity, and IU singing Hurt, one of NJ's lesser known songs.
In other words Iu was pushed 5 to 1.
When Itzy met the owner of Edam Entertainment (she owned Edam Entertainment at that point of time), they sang 2 songs, IU sang a song of theirs, and they sang together one song.
But this time IU was not allowed to interfere with NJ's songs.
IU interjected herself freely in the previous episodes, overpowering one act after another, but now she could not penetrate NJ's lines.
I think the 2nd generation has finally ended. The 2nd Generation, which began in 2006 when BIg Bang debuted, or in 2007 when Wonder Girls released Tell Me, was defeated in 2013 but continued to exist for 10 more years because of IU, is finally ending as IU realizes she cannot compete with the 4th Gen anymore.
Lee Jieun will have a comeback in later this year (announced in a recent photo show of hers), and that might go somewhere, but it seems the days of KPop's Greatest Anachronism menacing KPop has finally passed.
One thing I regret is we will never see the fight of IU and Aran of Fifty Fifty. FF never respected IU, and if they showed up in Palette it is iikely that Aran would have punched the 1,344 years old beyond recovery. But fortunately for the old singer that fight will never take place.
