I don't know all that happens in that series, but heard there is some weird stuff.
Maybe she thought it would be a good opportunity to work with famous names in Hollywood (which I can't blame her for) and didn't know how far the show will go outside of her own scenes where she is just signing and dancing.

I don't care about the idol anymore! screw that show, the jeffrey epstein 'joke' was disgusting and sickening, I don't want to care about jennie being in that show because that's her decision for herself! she is already facing criticism and major backlash, so after the idol I am curious to see what other roles she will pick after the idol backlash, the only major thing I am angry about is how all the show runners and actors (including jennie) seem to be ignoring all these real critics and acting all blaa-zay about this like it's not the most disgusting show made yet!

i read that the initial script was completely different but later it was rewritten due to the weeknd's demands. no idea if she signed the contract before or after it was rewritten

She gets paid and gets a foot in the game. Even if the drama is bad once ppl have seen you in a drama maybe you’ll get more casting calls. Maybe Hollywood is her dream and this was the only opportunity she had to break into that.
She’s a big kpop idol but she has no sway in HW. Just because you’re famous in one field doesn’t mean every field will hire you. You need to start somewhere and an HBO show is a starting point very few people not established will say no to.
People really are being extremely obtuse. Jennie is big but her dreams may not just stop at being a kpop idol.

The way the show isn't as near as problematic as people made it to be, damn, conservativism and prudism really have ruined my gen z.
So far the show has only had raunchy scenes, no rape scene, no non-consentual sex scenes. The major "weird stuff" is the bdsm between Jocelyn and Tedros and the sex cult that the latter runs, and even then its connected to supposedly "getting power". Those 2 campy shit are the biggest weird things of the show yet you have people like op and others trying to act like the show is a degradation of women, when its not.
And even then, Dyanne's role which is probably the script Jennie received is: "A back up dancer who then takes Jocelyn spot under Tedros guidance". That and an HBO show that is being co run by the Euphoria and other 2 acclaimed projects creator would clearly get you to sign up for the show as your start career. If Levinson ended up being the sole writer and that propelled the hate train the show got, that ain't Jennie's fault and nor means she is sick or something wrong. People need to just grow up and understand that sex, bdsm and nudity ain't wrong.

It was originally written and directed by a woman, correct? I'm not interested enough to even Google search. And the story was told from the idol's perspective, sensitive to her journey. But The Weekend wasn't having that. She was let go, Sam L., on. And he scrapped everything that was filmed thus far and rewrote the script... Hm. Choices.
