is it really that bad? I mean korea is very big on beauty and it's sort of just the culture to comment on someone's weight and beauty. It's weird to western people because you would get bitch slapped if you told someone to lose some weight and get double eyelid surgery in america but in korea it's just like "oh okay" but damn your own mother saying your bandmate is prettier than you, that would be my villian origin story.

Gaeul is so gorgeous... How could her own mother say that? She's one of the prettiest girls I've seen in kpop. This is how conventionally attractive people end up getting image issues. This is standard Korean mom behavior. You're always being compared to their nieces, nephews, friends' kids, church kids, camp kids, rando kids from school, from the mall, literally everything is a comparison or a competition. Usually it's about accomplishments and success, who is smarter than who, who went to a better college, who got a better job, who became a doctor or lawyer, who makes more money, who got married and had kids first.
