i think if other groups would have as much mic time as Super junior- their main attraction was, that they were up to do anything on variety show, and be funny (korean style funny, the one that can get you cancel 3 times before you touch the floor nowadays).

they were on tv, radio, special shows. And their oppinions were very average korean man style...yeah gurl, get real. I don`t say all idols are like that, but be happy that some of them have an agency that restrict what they can or can not say in public

Yes idols are heavily restricted now because of cancel culture from overseas as they Chase the international market as many jokes and slapstick comedies have been all but outright banned. Yes the local population here may not care but its all those other people watching us that makes it this way. Hell prostitution was literally legal in 2010 but because we wanted the Olympics etc it was made illegal overnight.

Koreans have different attitudes about weight. Over there, it was commonplace for strangers and random folks to talk about your weight, i was in Korea visiting when i was a kid and had two strangers (a saleswoman and a waitress) mention my weight. What we might think is rude or "misogynistic" (since it's a man talking about a woman's weight in the OP's example) isnt over there. People ask you your age directly (since they might want to know if they should be using formal speech to an older person) and they comment about your weight.

But this was my experiences back in the 80s and 90s lol, maybe times might have changed? I mean they sure as hell changed a crap ton here in the States, i grew up at a time when a song about a man wanting to hook up with a 17 year old went top 25 in the Hot 100 and when nobody blinked an eye when we called people "fat", "retard", "f*g", and played games like smear the qu**r

In the days when I followed Super Junior, I found Shindong to be a warm, funny and talented man and he isn't the only one within the group that has made fat shaming and misogynistic remarks. I think people just like to hate on him because he is a member of a group that has got problematic members.

They are entertainers.

Shindong "act" is to be a frat boy. He is part of the Knowing Bros crew, and they say and do all kinds of stupid stuff. On top of that he is big. That is part of his brand, and he plays up to it.

I'm sure he told Dayoung, its ok to say those things.

This is very true which is why I pause when ifans jump on cancel trains and then hypocritically in same vien turn a blind eye too or accept/ encourge bullying etc of idols and people they don't like. Yet are the same people that will cry about what happened recently and say everyone needs to do more? Like bruh you can't advocate for things being better while supporting the toxicity to people you don't like. This idea of pushing your own views culture etc on another culture and place is colonial behavior.

A decade ago Shindong was one of the most problematic SUJU members, and now... he's honestly one of the least.
