What's up with some kpop idols obsession with white people?

  • isn't it borderline fetishizing? Like red velvet in some european country, the girlys were staring down every mid looking white man and saying "wow", Yeri being in full feral mode over some average white guy

Plus, Taeyeon and her weird lil aesthetic posts on white people.

People talk about asian fetishism, but it's a two way street. Jessi and her friend who went to the sperm bank to specifically pick white man sperm to make her child half white (despite having 0 relation to a white country, and not being able to speak any other language)

Or Jessi wanting to set Hwasa up with an italian man

Like when you press on some Korean figures insta account, they'll occasionally always be a random Polaroid of white people...

Like girlys, the white people aren't giving you the same love back. Stop it, it's making everyone look bad

  • Obsession with white people in non white countries comes from a history of white superiority and/or colorism and/or colonialism and/or some combination of these things

Why is it in anyway surprising 💀

It’s giving “reverse racism” fake concern.

And they help perpetuate white supremacy even when there's no white people around. This is why no many few POCs in kpop in comparison to white mixed idols, and why POCs are not allowed in establishments in Korea while the door is more open for whites.

Agreed. It’s toxic. What I meant to address was OP’s “it's a two way street”

Fetishizing POC is harmful for POC and fetishizing white ppl is also harmful only for POC. There’s no two way street. Both are a result of white supremacy.

  • SNSD paved the way for white fetishism in Korea.

They didn't teach me this in social studies 💀

but yeah, I agree. My parents still think white people are superior because they're white. for me, i honestly don't care. i try to make friends wherever i go.

    unfortunately i don't have a lot ToT

colorism and white supremacy overlap in a lot of Asian countries. So it’s a mixed bag. But ofc at the end of the day it’s only more harmful for the non white societies that place whiteness on a pedestal.

i don't think this is a very good example of white fetishism. I mean, a lot of people think Brad Pitt is hot and SNSD are women too, so I think that it also would make sense for them to like scream over him. it's not exactly fetishizing. Someone could like a Korean idol but not fetishize them, just like a Korean could fangirl over a white man and not fetishize them. Also, a lot of men in SK don't like to because muscular like Americans do, and some women might like that, but can't get it because of their country. So they might fetishize Americans in one way and then... experience them and realize they're not really different between Koreans.

Also, keep in mind that America has a more open type of culture while SK is more conservative. I see a lot of Korean dudes on youtube who like foreign women because of their sexiness.

that could also be a place where fetishism starts.
