Well they just arent a cohesive group in anyway. They dont have the same experience that a traditional group does and also the musical direction just isnt something that be commercially successful. These songs and them releasing music as a “supergroup” is okay, but they should brand the singles in less serious manners until one of the sounds sticks and then they can begin to make more serious moves with that music.

I would say that SM Station was kind of created so that SM Artists had a way of making music in a more… free? Way, and SM was willing to fund it because it was low buy in and it allowed them to feel for the right sound for each person/sub-groups, even to see how SNSD was being received after their string of scandals post jessica/tiffany japan.

Isn't this just how K-pop fans talk and think in general, about many groups: all groups that don't rank #1 are apparently flops, especially if it isn't 1 of their bias groups or if it's 1 of the groups they dislike?

I have no doubt what they are using what metrics suits their version of "SM artists are flops" the best

obvious there are so many different metrics in kpop and any particular fandom can use any one to discredit the other and claim oh your favs flopped!!!

Both Red Velvet and Aespa have achieved things that Snsd never did.

And it's a different time, and each group has a different concept. Snsd's was easily likable compared to RV who have 3 concepts in one, Red (like Red Flavour), Velvet(like Automatic and Be Natural) and Red Velvet (like Bad Boy, Peekaboo, Psycho).

Aespa with its metaverse and lore concept which attracts mostly only those interested in such and that's not the GP.

Those concepts are not for everyone while Snsd's is a normal pop concept easily acceptable by the GP.

It's not fair to compare them to Snsd and to act like they are failures because they are not on Top.

If they were still Nugu and doing nothing, selling like only 50k then maybe it'd be right to call them failures.

i see what you're saying. i just meant that there was something good in the approach they took for this cb as evidenced by a song like mala and i just think that they could've added a bit more of that catchy flavor in the other songs as well. i don't think it would've hurt or derailed the concept they were going for and at the same time might've possibly won more of the people over to their side

Ithink some of the hate due to frustation over their artist could be bigger if SM do things differently, imo

The hate or critics will be less if SM do experiment stuff once in a red moon but they have been doing constantly esp. After LSM announce retirement (when he is not)

But I think SM is always target a niche market and kinda stuck in that area? So even when they said they want to reign over America or Japan market they kinda forget how to please the gp? Idk it just feel that way sometimes...

Though, I like many of their experimental stuff

Okay this is a serious question: Is there any group/s in big 3 that disbanded due to this following reasons?

1. Never sell any albums

2. Never chart at all

Because as far as I'm concerned that's definitely a failure if a band or groups disbanded just because of that reasons but as long as the groups have fans and keep thriving they are not a failure or even flop.
