How do you deal with making somebody sad by rejecting them
-

i dont know what to do so
i just disappear and never talk again lol

You were honest, which is good. Better than leading him on or giving him false hope. Your no is making him sad now but he'll move on with time. You did well. The awkwardness is expected. Just give it time for your friendship to go back to how it was. He needs time to get over his feelings for you. Don't mind him if he starts ignoring you.

I think it's for the best to give him time but I'm never good with rationalizing that they're not distancing themselves from me because they hate me but because they're hurt. Thank you

Why hate you when you were honest? If he hates you, then it's on him. Not your fault. You can't force yourself to love him. I'd suggest going on a date with him to test the water. You may end up liking him. But I'm scared you end up the opposite and make things worse. So, better safe than sorry. If you're 100% of your feelings towards him, then there is no need to drag it out.

It's just my own insecurity and need for all people to love me 24/7 basically.
We did go on a date years before, before my ex actually and we didn't click whatsoever. I never saw him in that way unfortunately.
Thank you for your kind words!

cant really do anything about it
Just wish them in your heart to find someone that loves them as much as they do

jokes aside - give both of your time and then communicate communicate communicate - if possible in person to explain why you feel the way you do and him to explain the way he feels the way he feels
since as the situation is awkward now...it's going to continue to be awkward if neither of you do anything about it

It's not on you to make him feel better. Be open, honest, and clear.
If he can't handle it then it's his problem, and long term the hurt/embarrassment that he might feel will be good for him and help him to move on.
If he can't deal with it and blames you, then he was never really your friend and was probs just looking to get in your pants anyway.
