Idk why kpop fans are acting so hurt and "surprised" by YGE doing the minimum promo to BP new album when their faves do way more and add even foods in some cases.

I agree with you, Menah. Promos are either paid or making a deal where both parties either way win something. People are just over exaggerating BP case bc they are bringing the biggest numbers this year with TWO IMPACTFUL SONGS.

Mediaplay exists, but people generalize any type of promotion as mediaplay.
Mediaplay is when what an article say isn't false per say, but they are misleading on purpose to make the audience believe in something is bigger or worse than actually is.
For example. Let's say you read an article where the title say "Global act, XYZ, gets It's third #1 on Japan"
And then you read the article and the group is leading the real-time sales of Tower Records store.
If you understand about charts, you will know It's barely relevant and It's any kind of prove of actual popularity, but for people that don't know anything seems big for the title alone.

This is true.
I mean, i loved using words like inorganic in my fandom wars with Army regarding Butter marketing, for example.
But in reality, nothing regarding these big musical acts nowadays is ever "organic". They're all manufactured, from Kpop to local pop. They're all casted, developed, curated, and polished to achieve a certain branding, a certain vibe calculated to appeal to whatever demographic that the labels want to target. Labels employ armies of producers, handlers, managers, PR experts, etc to keep their acts relevant and profitable.
It's different nowadays compared to how it used to be when someone like Bruce Springsteen went from doing 2 dollar gigs at every scummy dive bar in Jersey to becoming the greatest rock musician in history. Those were the halcyon days of "organicity".

There can be a distinction at times. All mediaplay is promotion but not all promotion is mediaplay.

When a company brags about a group being million seller then that’s marketing publicity.
But when they brag about a group charting in 145 countries and it’s iTunes that’s mediaplay.
