• ok but why is everyone acting so shocked by this? wbk kppop companies do this shit to idols? its in every kpop documentary, multiple idols have come foreword about the extreme diets their companies FORCED on them. this is not new.

  • self-management isn't only about eating tho

    it's also about recovering, regeneration

pacing yourself, focusing only on dance trainings and vocal trainings, and using all other time to regain force to do the same thing next day

That was not what that particular discussion was about. It was just about weight.

    No one is shocked

It is fair for people to keep criticizing every company out there for pushing their artists to be bones and skin.

  • No one is shocked

It is fair for people to keep criticizing every company out there for pushing their artists to be bones and skin.

"how could hybe staff say this?/1!11" is the reaction ive been seeing to this and by my definition, thats shocked. i agree that this deserves to be called out and the backlash is warranted. it just seems like some people are acting brand new. thats just my perception. y'all are still supporting this same industry and picking on idols that have a little more meat on their bones than the norm (yes, ifans pick on "chubby" idols too). thats my only point.

  • I’m so confused why kpop companies are sp afraid of the press yet put this out themselves.

Like what do they think a journalist can do for their rep and then this? It’s great but really…why be afraid of the media?

  • I don't see a problem with including this, because this is the reality. Actually, the reality is probably a ton more ugly than this awkwardly polite "uhm we'd like you to lose weight but we don't want to say this outright so we'll just hum and haw about self-management but y'all get it right" statement they made. We know how harsh managers talk to idols, especially pre-debut. We know idols have been asked to weigh themselves and say their weight out loud and be punished if it's over the requirement, being told to go on starvation diets. The consumer is also part of the problem, just look at how every idol is treated who's even a tiny bit bigger than skinny. Look at whose bodies get the most praise, how many people call it a glow-up when idols lose a lot of weight? nobody has ever called it a glow-up when they gain some.

I think it's honest to show this bc at least it's something I can point at whenever people go "noooo they're all naturally skinny! you're just skinny-shaming them" when people point out that this weight is not just something that "happens" for the vast majority of people. Like, just yesterday I saw someone argue on reddit that Wonyoung is just thin because she's working so hard, like no matter what she does she just won't gain anything! Never dieted or watched her weight in her life and she's super healthy! Completely ridiculous.

  • I can't say what an "evil company", because just this week I read that knets mocked one of Ive because she gain weight, educate the company but at the same time educate the people who expected that from idol too

  • None is shocked can you ditch the Hybe Stan in you for once

do y'all have nothing better to do than try to dismiss things people have to say with name calling? what in my post makes me a "hybe stan" exactly? or is it just that fact that im apparently so relevant you remember other things ive said and feel the need to try to draw some sort of false equivalency using different stance i have on different topics? ive been a kpop fan since 2010 and on forums since 2012. don't act like you know anything about me. thanks.

  • So should we all stop listening to kpop? We have been outraged with stuff like this for years now. It's not "brand new". And yes Ifans also body shame, so what's your point? We aren't talking about fans we are talking about companies telling their idols to diet not some moron no twitter. Why are you bringing up Ifans into this?

exactly? its not brand new? thats my point? all im saying is that i have seen people that ARE acting brand new about this. stop pretending you don't have the reading comprehension to understand my post. ifans are the first to go on these performative activism stints but do the same body shaming, the same non-action. THAT'S my point. i think i just get frustrated with the fact that yall act like you are doing something but you're not. "We have been outraged with stuff like this for years now." ok? and have you been able to change korea's culture of being extremely weight conscious and hateful towards people who look even a little different?

i agreed with your first response to me. you are still allowed to be pissed about it. and talking about things like this makes it visible so people are aware of idol treatment. but this is the reality of this industry and anyone who has followed kpop for more than a month should be aware of that already. the kpop industry is just not ethical.

  • Idols have been saying for literally decades that they have been starved to debut and shit. We have seen this on documentaries before with Nine Muses and Idols have admitted it from SM, to YG, to JYP. Every company does this there are no “good” companies in Kpop. Just terrible ones and less bad ones.
