Display Moretbh as other people said, it's her charisma.
She also clearly works hard to improve her skills and you can see that from her performances in PD48 to her performances during and after Fiesta. Her eyes especially are like a fox and they really draw you in.
Something about her aura and dedication made her able to stand out in a group of over 100 girls so I'm not at all shocked she was so popular in PD48\IZ*ONE.
And tbh she has this relatable and dorky side of her which makes her fans want to root for her. She has her gaming channel which many people can relate to, she has said that she used to lack confidence during PD48, etc. People want to root for an idol that's just like them and the fact that she is still very down to earth despite her massive popularity helps too.
I do agree that she is smart and knows what the fans want and expect from her, which tbh is a skill most idols need to have to survive in this industry that debuts hundreds of groups every year.
There's a reason why she was chosen as the center for the Nekkoya performance. She's like one of my top female idols because of some of these reasons alone.
Now that Le_sserafim is my greatest group of all time I'm trying to figure out the hype and why Sakura was such a big deal back then.

My introduction to her was in Produce 48
You had 48 Korean contestants and 48 Japanese contestants
The show really dramatized the skill difference between the Koreans and Japanese in the first few episodes with none of the Japanese girls getting a top grade and they really presented it like it was all down to 2 Girls the 2 most popular AKB48 girls going into the show in Jurina and Sakura was their last hope to have a Japanese girl with a top initial grade
Jurina went first and failed to get a top grade, leaving all the pressure squarely on Sakura to in effect represent all the Japanese contestants in the show
With that pressure and expectation from everyone there she ended up getting the top grade which was one of the more memorable storyline moments from Produce 48 early on and I suspect helped carry her to debuting in the final lineup
But nowadays I can't even re-watch Produce 48, like other Mnet series it all feels too fake and rigged I am uncomfortable watching it like everything else Mnet had its grubby little hands on
