traditional "girl crush" was super old fashioned as it was very narrowly constructed

Nowadays girl crush isn't just rap and a strong beat and instead groups like Itzy or aespa also can give you the "confident, cool woman" vibe

Girl crush songs, the best of them, are great because they have super catchy drops, addictive raps, perfect blend of trap hip hop and EDM, and non basic song structures. I love it when songs dont follow the same old boring verse-chorus-verse-chorus formula. Instead you get verse-prechorus-chorus-post chorus-rap-bridge-outro, imagine how nice it is for songs to have this level of complexity. Just look at how unique a song like Pirate is or Next Level.

If we can maintain this kinda top notch musicality in other subgenres like cutesy, elegant, quirky, etc, then fine. But if a song is gonna be generic in structure, it better damn well be perfect in every other respect like Afterlike for example.

female confidence will never go out of style, but if that particular kpop flavor of bombastic, noisy girl crush goes out of style I will personally rejoice.

Tomboy was massive this year and it's Girl Crush as you can get. Pink Venom so far seems to be fairly stable and it's also pretty much down the line Girl Crush.

the only groups who consistently put out music as girl crush and was successful (exponentially) was YG groups anyways so....

It's fine to release girl crush once in a while, but when every other gg is doing it it gets boring fast. Pirate, MITM and Next Level were the last actually good girl crush songs imo (besides PV).
