shut up
SM makes all their boy groups sound the same.

No they're not similar. It is only baseline that sounds similar which is the weakness of SME composers. Not only SME but most k-pop composers. That too only happens because kpop producers have habit of using same samples over and over. Biggest example is Teddy. It is more evident in SME groups probably because company kind of like has a specific structure for their boy group's title tracks pre determined. Otherwise it is not similar if you pay close attention. Their melodies, bits, dprs, etc are different because of their vocalists.

They do, but they don't.
I'm an outsider and I've only casually listened to EXO and SHINee, I have no idea how TVXQ, SuJu and NCT sound like.
You may say both use a lot of vocal harmonies and bass instruments and gravitate around some similar genres. But, apart from that, they don't really sound the same.

I think they arranged the chorus vocals just like they do for the bigger SM groups with 8+ members. There are only 4 guys in the group. They should have considered tailoring the vocals with more focus on harmonies. SHINee is more than competent when it comes to singing and harmonies. The SHINee guys showed this beautifully on IU's show.
Can't hide the fact that SM has a history of underperforming raps. If Weeekly and Weki Meki can have raps that adequately meet performance, why can't SM groups? Hip-Hop/Rap isn't even a big influence in their music. I guess it still isn't big enough of a priority for SM.
I agree that every other song having a "screaming note" is fatiguing. SHINee did a good job working through the flaws in the vocal arrangement so it still sounds engaging.

True. They do.

You’re right - they do sound the same in that:
- they focus on exceptional vocals with an emphasis placed on training, stability and ability.
- they focus on harmonies because they have enough strong vocalists to make them in all of the groups.
- they can go for big notes because they have vocalists that can reach them, hold them and slay them.
Other than that...naw.
